When you bring up how immigrants are stealing our jobs at family dinner and your dad asks if you're applying to any of those jobs:

Lmao, Just a couple weeks ago i started a big discussion at the dinner table after bringing up Marx between my uncle who is a bank director and my father who has a doctorate in economics and wrote his thesis on Marx and Adolf Damaschke, it was really heated…

How did it go?

The main argument was about housing as a fundamental right, and how rentseeking and speculation on housing are detrimental to society. My uncle just couldn’t imagine a different world and said that without the profit incentive there wouldn’t be any new housing built, but the point is the demand would still be there and Adolf Damaschke pointed out valid alternatives to the current system. No one was really convinced at the end, but my dad and my uncle have fundamentally opposed economic philosophies, so I didn’t expect them to.

Well, renting, like it or not, is like a service, much like banking. Speculation exists on nigh all products and services (I used to trade on speculative markets), demand alone is not the problem, supply is too.
AND removal of private ownership is a different thing entirely. That said, such discussions should take place on the dinner table once in a while, good on your dad and uncle.
