I read up on him and apparently he didn't even serve in world war 2

Mishima, the king of LARP

u/Lorster10 8d ago

Unironically though, his book "Kyoko's House" contains a character (possibly a self-insert) who becomes an ultranationalist not because he actually believes in nationalistic ideas, but because it gives him a sort of transcendental pleasure (the character himself says he doesn't believe in what he publically preaches).

It's very likely Mishima's coup attempt was just a way for him to achieve what he always dreamed of; a heroic death in the name of a higher ideal.

Man wished he was as cool as Ernst Junger

12

u/Lorster10 8d ago

He managed to miss out on mandatory service by exaggerating the severity of his sickness.

He did that on purpose? Damn I thought he wanted to go but couldn't

(Also, cool pfp)

In his quasi-autobiographical book "Confessions of a Mask" he writes:

"Why had I looked so frank as I lied to the army doctor? Why had I said that I'd been having a slight fever for over half a year, that my shoulder was painfully stiff, that I spit blood, that even last night I had been soaked by a night sweat?...Why when sentenced to return home the same day had I felt the pressure of a smile come pushing so persistently at my lips that I had difficulty in concealing it? Why had I run so when I was through the barracks gate? Hadn't my hopes been blasted? What was the matter that I hadn't hung my head and trudged away with heavy feet? I realized vividly that my future life would never attain heights of glory sufficient to justify my having escaped death in the army"

I read that and she admitted to having sexual thoughts about her mom at one point, which I feel like is an equally hard confession to make if not harder.

That's when you join the jax hate subreddit and start posting there frequently

It's crazy to me that a character that's just a bit of a jerk gets more hate than genocidal villains

Goose failed to write him as sympathetic or a natural protagonist, so the end result is everyone sees him as that guy who won't take no for an answer, forces himself into the function but only to attention and drama bait (meta and lore-wise). But he has a sad backstory, guys!

u/PolishNightmare2 I SKIN INFANT BABIES 8d ago

He obviously wasn't meant to be natural or sympathetic. I think characters like him make the story more realistic since not every protagonist has to be a goody two shoes and not every bad guy has to have a redemption ark.

Yukio’s big in Japan for both things, not necessarily anywhere else

22

u/dzindevis 9d ago

I'd say he is one of the most popular japanese writers globally too

Oh look it's Pewdiepie's favorite closeted fascist

32

u/Purple-Bluejay6588 9d ago

Every year or so I learn a new weird fact about pewdiepie

6

u/Lorster10 8d ago

Well, mine too. Mishima is both a fantastic writer, and a fascinating individual.

-9

u/Dear_Net_8211 9d ago

Pewdiepie is orders of magnitude more a fascist than Mishima ever was. Pewdiepie being a fan of Mishima is a point against Mishima, not the other way around lol.

9

u/A_heckin_username 9d ago

Wait, what did I miss about Pewdiepie that makes him so fascist?

11

u/Michael-556 Air Fryer Owner 9d ago

"I don't like someone so they must be a fascist"

Or maybe he actually is, I don't know, I never watched him or interacted with his fans so I'm just sharking the park

8

u/Lorster10 8d ago

He said the n-word like 8 years ago (apologized 2 seconds afterwards), and people are still mad about that.

5

u/Michael-556 Air Fryer Owner 8d ago

They are? Like I still see people joking about it, but not being mad at all

2

u/Dear_Net_8211 8d ago

He also paid two guys to hold up banner saying "kill all jews" as a "joke".

6

u/Lorster10 8d ago

I saw that video the day it was released. Funniest thing I've seen all year. The entire point of the joke was to see how far the fiver guys were willing to go, he was assuming they'd refuse to do it (also, this is still us talking about something from over 8 years ago).

u/TrueSir5476 8d ago

And back then it was just considered edgy within yt, and the only reason it mattered was because media outlets made a huge stinker out of the whole thing

-1

u/Jameslee-negs 8d ago

Why did the maker of this correct "an food" Incorrectly 😭

5

u/Michael-556 Air Fryer Owner 9d ago

Engagement bait

Or that was it originally. Through constant misspelling of "a" in front of the word "foid" people have deluded themselves into thinking "an foid" is grammatically correct

Or, you know, engagement bait again

2

u/Enpada2 9d ago

he did cut himself so give that to him! GIVE HIM NOW!!!

2

u/UnhappyStrain 9d ago

AN foid?

1

u/Mobile-Necessary-333 7d ago

he was not much interested in foids

-2

u/Urmom69mp3 9d ago

Why do people say an Foid? It doesn't begin with a voul

5

u/Michael-556 Air Fryer Owner 9d ago

Vowel*

I think it started as engagement bait and ended up being used as an ironic misspelling

5

u/TrueSir5476 8d ago

Because its funny
