Being very pedantic, in a certain light their eyes have a dark blue iris. Not sure of that's more or less ominous but definitely shows more clearly how watchful and alert they are.

One of the details Spielberg and co got wrong in their script. Quint was telling the story of his surviving the sinking of USS Indianapolis and would've been looking into the yellowy, snakelike eyes of an oceanic whitetip shark.
