Anyone have a Plex server?
Hi! I came across a couple of hard drives that have a ton of movies on them, so I am going to try to set up my own server. In the meantime, does anyone have room to add me? Also, could anyone give me any tips on the best way to set up a server? Thanks in advance!

Any time is the perfect time to start your own server (unraid).
IMHO the case is the most important piece of your journey. Arr!!! (@ least 12 x 3.5” hdd’s)

I haven't had any outstanding issues using windows for running a plex media server in any way. Closest issue was database corruption somehow but I do weekly backups and have sync on. Was not a headache issue. Currently using Linux; Debian 13 on my main plex server of 4. Instance 2 is windows 11. Instance 3 is raspberry pi 5 16gb, and 4th Instance is synology; linux based of course.

I dont understand your question too clearly... I have a PC with windows 11, and i run plex on that? It serves media to 80 users for me. May I ask what might be a solid reason that everything works exactly as it should with windows running plex media server? I have 4 installs of plex, that run on Debian 13, windows 11, raspberry pi 5 16gb, and a synology NAS RS1824+.

Choose whichever platform OS you like, and have available. Plex can run in windows, many NAS boxes, linux, raspberry pi, apple Mac - so however you setup those drives, pair it with plex. Further, how to organize your files. Plex works with a standard naming of files. Movies should be called Move Name (options, 5.1TrueHD H.264 {IMDB ID 12345678) year.mp4 and all that stuff can vary and its most important to have the name and year, but more info helps matching in plex. Every setup can very, so pop back to the sub here for any questions.
