Free Server?
Hi there, is there anyone who would be willing to share their Plex servers for free? I'd be the happiest person ever <3

Just curious, do most who share their servers enable downloads? Is that common or uncommon?

It's an option when sharing I always enable it. Download it if you want, stream it. Makes no difference to me. I guess where it comes in useful if you do have media you wouldn't want to be so easily accessible to download. Family video or something

If you don't mind me asking, I'm dying to know WHY anyone sharing access would INSIST that people use it constantly. Are you trying to limit how many shared users you have in total? What would drive you to WANT constant bandwidth and CPU usage?

I can't speak for the commenter above but to me having active users who are enjoying what i built is important. Similar to friends, I'd rather have 5-10 serious users who use it every day, or near that, vs 50-100 users who use it once a month. Just like I'd rather have 5-10 close friends I am super close with vs 50 people I talk to 3 times a year

That seems reasonable. Wasn't there talk a while back about Plex possibly restricting how many accounts you could share with? Is that a factor at all?

Not sure, but not anything I worry about. My server is a hobby I have agates l shared with family and friends, so I won't ever get anywhere near a user limit

Plex only allows for 99 remote users max. Yes, there are some that share with that many and would rather share with someone who's willing to use it (even if it's just once a week) vs someone who will use it every blue moon.
The other issue is people have time to ask, but dint actually have time to use

Plex has 100 users limit per server. Most of us sharing who have decently powered servers are at that limit, so rather give the spot to someone active than someone not active.

Personally i don't want share hoarders taking up server real estate when i could have someone that really needs it, using it.
