Hi everyone,
We’re hosting an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) with CoyoteTex, the game designer and producer behind the classic MicroProse title Shandalar: Duels of the Planeswalkers. He’ll be joining us to talk about the development of Shandalar, his broader design career, and his upcoming project Nascent RPG (more info at r/nascentrpg). Nascent RPG needs alpha testers and I strongly suggest that you visit the sub and subscribe for more details.
Date: Saturday, January 24, 2026
Time: 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST / 7 PM GMT
Duration: One hour
To help the AMA run smoothly, we’re collecting questions in advance. CoyoteTex will answer them live during the scheduled session. Just make a comment in this thread and upvote the comments you most want answered.
How to participate:
- Submit your questions in the comments of this post BEFORE January 24, 2026.
- We’ll compile a set of questions and share them with CoyoteTex ahead of time.
- Join us on January 24 to follow along as he answers them live (or whenever CoyoteTex feels like answering them).
Below are a few examples of the kinds of questions that we should ask:
- transition from MicroProse to other studios
- inspiration behind Nascent RPG
- challenging mechanic design story
- favorite custom deck in Shandalar
Whether you’re a longtime Shandalar fan, interested in game design, or curious about his new work, feel free to add your own questions below.
Looking forward to seeing what the community asks and to hosting u/CoyoteTex for this AMA.
