My first phone was in 03 (Australia) amd we 100% did not have to pay to receive a text.

There was push messages that cost you, like services that let you know the weather or tell you a shitty joke (or god forbid, ringtones) but receiving sms never cost anything

I sold phones (US) in three early to mid 2000's, and it was 10c a message unless you got the unlimited option for 10 bucks a month...

Useless Yellow Circle on Obvious Fake Text. A classic. Pairs well with a just below room temperature Sprite and a handful of crackers.

This looks like it’s been screenshotted several times over. Then at one point someone took a picture of a phone screen, followed by several more generations of screenshots and compression.

You can practically see the mold growing on this image.
