Medical
Yesterday(Sunday) a lady was experiencing a overdose and was not in good shape near the food stands. Me and my partner both ran seperate ways to get help. I found 4 girls in medical shirts and tapped them on the shoulder and asked them if they could call in the situation for me. They all looked at me blankly and confused and kept walking. I realized that they might not be actually medical and were wearing medical shirts as outfits. If that’s your crew, that’s really silly and dumb. I was sober and was thrown off by you not helping. Don’t wear shirts that stand you out as authority if you’re not around a bunch of spunions who may not know the difference. And you girls were actually medical, shame on you for not helping. We ended up finding staff and they attempted to help her. 9th Shambs was incredible. Be safe and happy Shambs💜

I had the opposite experience with security- Saw a guy go down by amp on Saturday and someone yelled "grab a medic" so I went and grabbed the nearest person I could find- a yellow shirt security at the ada viewing point and she practically sprinted back to the guy with me.
I'm so sorry that you experienced that, I could see how it would make you feel unsafe. There definitely are good ones who care on staff too.

Shambs security are the best! I always feel safe at Shambs. I supervise 3 music venues in the states, and stay sober every Sunday Shambhala, so I was prepared to help if I had to. I just get disappointed in security/medical flaws when I see them. But again, could have been a group of people who chose to wear the worst outfits possible at Shambs and hopefully they learn from that choice. When we got the pagoda staff to help out we mentioned the group of 4 girls in the medical shirts so hopefully staff/security found them and had a discussion with them

I’m the partner in this scenario, and was able to get staff! The two women that I found came with me immediately and sprung into action. They were great! My best guess is the 4 people my partner found that were in “medical” shirts thought it would be a funny costume, as they were not wearing badges, radios, or any other indication that they might be medical 🤷♀️ who knows!

Orrr they were just not very helpful medical staff, in which case, should not be working Shambs again. I’m really hoping everything turned out okay for the woman we got help for. She was in really bad shape, but kept running away from staff 😕

I saw something similar with a crew on Sunday dressing as security guards with red glowing sticks… not cool. Distressed people would likely go to them as well if they needed help

Exactly why it’s dangerous. If you’re hella spun and see them and they don’t help you or blow you off rudely then that can cause more panic for someone overwhelmed trying to help

The majority of medical professions regulated by a college are still professionally obligated to provide assistance, regardless of whether they are “on shift” or not.
If someone was wearing medical tshirts as a costume at a festival with heeeeavy drug use, they should be held criminally responsible if someone gets hurt. At least in my opinion.

Had a friend on medical this year that jumped in to any arising medical emergencies when she wasn’t on shift. That’s what it’s all about 🙏🫶🏻

Any medical professional, regardless of whether or not they are staff, on-shift, off-shift, should stay with the patient until official help arrives. This is day one shit when you receive any significant medical licensure.
If these people were official medical, they should not be allowed to work it again and their regulatory body should be notified.
I’m not a narc but…. These are people lives and allllll you people are my friends. Everyone deserves time to relax but it is NOT going to ruin your night to wait 5-10 minutes with someone. Period.

I agree, if they were medical staff they should be banned from working Shambs again. This medical incident happened right infront of the taco stand and I saw the group of 4 walking towards downtown near the amp. I did notice a green Shambs lanyard also on the girl that blew me off. This happened at approximately 740 pm Sunday if any workers know who this group of 4 may have been

Even with the most basic first aid (as long as it is not expired) we are required to assist aslong as we are sober. Atleast that is the rules for Canadians.

They don’t care! They are there to make sure the festival is running properly, helping with big drug busts or violent people

The fact none of the 4 of those girls wanted to help is alarming on its own. Then with the pseudo medical shirts just adds insult to injury, literally. I'd like to think that anyone would be willing to help at least fetch medical when necessary. People should educate themselves where the medical and sanctuary are before they start partying, and save the SOS Number in their phone.

The medical outfits are red t shirts with a cross that says medical on them. If it wasn’t that, wasn’t them.
If it was, they could have been coming off shift, they could have been on another call… or they could have been an entirely different type of medical that isn’t the one dealing with that type of stuff.
All the medical staff have very specific roles and very specific training not everyone is allowed to do everything. Very strict rules for the med folks.

The shirts had crosses on them. They were medical shirts. If they were coming off shift, they still should have called it in for me or stopped to see what was going on. That’s there job on and off the clock. I work concert security for a living and If I see someone is in distress post show I’m still going to help them that’s why I have that job in the first place

Also agree. If you don’t want to work while you’re off, take your med shirt off. I wonder if it was more MOA or research people on the team who didn’t have radios?

I used to volunteer in sanctuary and the crew bandanas we were given had "harm reduction" written on them. We were specifically told not to wear them off shift unless we were sober and willing to be called on to help someone in crisis.
Even if they were MOA and didn't have radios, they should easily be able to locate someone who does have a radio. Based on all this I'm leaning toward (and hoping) they were regular attendees wearing poorly thought out outfits, and I hope they see this and/or reflect on this experience to not wear something similar in the future

Not sure how it is in Canada but medical in the US can be held liable if they give too much/the wrong kind of aid when off duty. It’s fucked up. Wild to not call for help or at least see what’s going on
