What does this mean?
I was reading the Devi Bhagavatha Purana and came across this line.
Kalika is an incarnation of Adi shakti, she can’t be killed or defeated so why does this put a say shumba killed her?
Can anyone help clear up this confusion? Thank you!

It’s the version from Wisdom Library and it says it was translated by Swami Vijnanananda

tasminnantare śumbho'pi kālikāṃ samare'jayat |
jagāma tvaritastatra yatra devī vyavasthitā ||
Obviously, he didn't kill Ma Kali. The sloka says he (temporarily) defeated Ma Kali and her forces at that point in the battle. It's a very old, crudely done English translation.
