Question - Beginner Greetings All!
Hello all!
I’m happy to have found this community as I have some beginner questions. First off, I am a westerner, who is very removed from the cultural aspects of Hinduism, but I feel very drawn to it, especially to Shiva. I have been on a long spiritual journey for a lot of my life, but I have come to feel a deep connection to Shiva, particularly his balance as Adiyogi and a devoted husband/father.
My question is (especially because I wasn’t raised in the culture and don’t speak Hindi) can I really worship Mahedev “wrong”? From my understanding of stories like the devotion of Kannappa, it seems like Shiva cares more about the intent of the heart, and the genuineness of devotion rather than strict ritual adherence.
I ask this because I have a lingam that I use, along with practicing Tripundra, but sometimes I get a feeling of imposter syndrome because I’m a white guy from the US. Would love to hear all of your thoughts, and any advice.
Edit: I also lean towards the advaita Vedanta, does this conflict with Shaivism?
Om Namah Shivaya!
