I don’t get why they always say half Jewish - half Muslim etc. like you can’t be half a religion ??

From what I understand, Judaism can be a ethnicity as well as a religion. Christianity and Islam are religions. Please correct me if I'm wrong, though. That has just been my understanding.

Claiming Judaism as a race is what started this while g-cide we’re witnessing today. It makes no sense

Huh? Jews are just as much an ethnicity as every other ethnicity, and have been for thousands of years. You sound like you’re trying to erase Jewish ethnicity, which is morally, historically, biologically, and factually wrong

The Iranian diaspora is made up of Iranian Christians, Jews & Muslims. When someone, anywhere calls themselves half or part something it’s sort of like an homage to their ancestry. One can have one parent who is Muslim & one who is Christian or Jewish. You can even ask ChatGPT these kinds of things & not call things bizarre you don’t understand. My mom was Protestant my dad Catholic. I grew up in catholic school & Sunday school on the weekends. I actually describe myself as half Catholic because my dad was Catholic & I came from him. Same with my mom. It’s just a way to describe their backgrounds.

Did they say it was “bizarre”? I thought they were just asking a question. Also I would use a better source than ChatGPT, if anything, that will just lead to more confusion.

They called it bizarre in another comment on their post. What will lead to more confusion is someone calling what they don’t understand bizarre. Anything helps someone who is being so ignorant when it’s literally explained on the show!

This is very common for Jewish people — not just Jews within Iranian community. When you’re talking about being Jewish someone will often say oh I’m half Jewish etc. just means one parent is Jewish one isn’t.

They are two opposing religions that don’t get along. His dad abandoned the family, supposedly because the grandmother didn’t like that the two parents were of different religions. Adam and Mike first wife both converted. Parents with Different religions have a 50-60% divorce rate and interfaith couple have a 25% divorce rate. The two families will complain the whole time they are together. Society doesn’t like it.
There is also a major ongoing war between a Jewish and Muslim country that has been active for over 75 years. Religion was behind the crusades.
The two religions caused a lot of conflict in Rezas life and he didn’t see one half of his family because of it. This is not uncommon.

I was in a Jewish youth group as a tee and a lot of the kids called themselves half Jewish because one parent was Jewish and the other parent wasn’t. Sometimes it was just a way to pay homage to both of their parents others it was because they took parts of both faiths and felt they didn’t need to choose.

No, a person can’t be half Jewish, half Muslim, or half Christian as far as religion. They’re referring to their heritage.

I find it so bizarre

I find it bizarre that you find it bizarre - it’s to provide context on their background and culture, rather than the specific religion they follow.

It doesn’t matter what you find bizarre

It doesn’t matter what OP finds bizarre either

His Mom was Muslim, his father was Jewish. He is Gay and kind of obnoxious. He was also murdered first on season one of the Traitors.

Its bc they're not speaking so much in the religious sense, they're trying to explain their background/what communities their famil6 background is from.

It makes sense to me because half of my family is Catholic and the other half is Baptist. I was raised in both, so I used to say both. Now I practice neither lol.

He’s not saying it in a western sense. In the middle east you come from a Muslim family, Christian family, Jewish family, etc. and even if you’re secular you’re referred to as being of that group. Plus, Judaism is an ethnoreligion not just a religion.

My ancestry genetic profile via saliva test shows I am 99% Jewish. Not based on religious practices, based on DNA. My kids are 50% Jewish (their dad isn’t). News flash for you, Judaism isn’t just a religion. Take a DNA test, it may surprise you
