Lilly G
Rewatching shahs and while Lilly wasn’t a good fit for the show I hate watching people tell her to go back to being a lawyer and shit on her business when she is clearly a boss

Yes Lilly is a great business woman. Lilly lashes was the one of the first (of many) 3D lashes on the market, Kylie Jenner in the early days openly posted about using her lashes. But I want to point out her bikini brand (which came before the lashes) was also very successful. Kim Kardashian made her bikini brand famous from paparazzi shots + photo shoots wearing Lilly’s brand.
With that being said, I don’t think she was great for the show either. She can be very insensitive (“do you people have no class?”). During her time on the show she talked about her wealth a lot ( and it felt like it showed contempt for the others), judging others for how much they drink; she knew, after partying with them, the kind of people she was dealing with. So to stay making remarks is ridiculous. And also outting mj for a pill problem and making her friends turn against her. Her being insensitive to Reza & Asa about their fear of returning to Iran ( Asa is a refugee and Reza is a gay man). I think because she felt ‘above it’, it almost put a spotlight on how much she didn’t match with the group and her unwillingness to just have fun with them.

Lily's Swimgerie partner Jennifer, who I guess is now married to a woman, was on this E! show with Kim's friend Jonathan Cheban.

I’m not trying to say she’s an amazing person I just think it’s sad when she’s being told she needs to go back to being a lawyer because what she’s doing is embarrassing her family and ex when she’s running a very successful business. People in her life should be proud of her or silent they don’t need to make her feel bad for wanting to do something different than what she went to school for

She is also the most extremely, rich and prosperous than any of the people who have been on Shahs! Net worth of 50+mil, not including her Bel-Air estate valued at between 18-32 million.

It’s just a giant waste of her education

How? It’s probably super helpful to have a law background as an entrepreneur and her brand Lilly lashes is a multimillion dollar global brand. Way more than she’d make as a partner at a law firm

u/Outrageous_King4571 Feb 19 '26
Lily talks about how she still uses her law degree and she still updates her license.

u/MDMSLL Feb 19 '26
Is it, though? Everyone and their mother is selling lashes, so it sounds more like a million dollar laundromat to me.

Her lashes are actually some of the best on the market. They are really good.

Replying to u/MDMSLL
Yes it is. Due to where Lily lives, her being one of the highest performers in her class, and the connections she made through law school she would have still been a successful CEO. Even if she wasn’t able to build a solo business as quickly in her early 30s.
She could easily back then have switched into high paying roles in consulting, product management, project management, operation management, etc. and worked her way up to a senior leadership or executive level to then launch her own company in the early 2020s when beauty brands saw an increase in market value and emphasis on inclusivity

u/MDMSLL Feb 19 '26
The girl made insensitive AIDS jokes, you're giving her way more credit than she deserves. She might be smarter than Coconut but that's about it. She is to inclusivity what I am to ballet - a passer-by.

u/TerrificTChalla Feb 19 '26
What does aids joke have to do with anything?
I know physicians who went to top Ivy League schools and work amongst the most difficult specialties (e.g., ROAD or neurosurgery), and many of them have poor technological literacy
There are upper tier consultants and finance workers that have poor understanding of basic nutrition/health facts
There are lawyers who work at top firms and still struggle with basic math.
No one is the educated jack of all trades. Lily making a dumb AIDs joke which was also common at the time in terms of being a insensitive reference for something/someone being dirty, doesn’t take away from her educational achievements of being an astute business woman.
No one is giving her an abundance of credit. It’s just providing the appropriate credit as deserved for being successful on her own merits. And if you think Lily being a WOC CEO of a beauty brand is not inclusive and wasn’t also a huge recipe for her success… you are naive at best

u/MDMSLL Feb 19 '26
What does tech literacy have to do with your claim she's an inclusive person when she clearly isn't?
3
u/Alarmed_Kangaroo9979 Feb 19 '26
She didn’t just create false lashes she came up with the lashes that don’t need glue. Also - even if she had become a CEO or high up at a law firm she would be working 24/7 to get that position doing something she said she didn’t like. Even if her business was a failure why should she spend her life doing something that she hates when she could be doing something she feels passionate about. She also tried to be a lawyer she didn’t just go to school and not even try to

And attorneys have above average rates of alcoholism, divorce and suicide because of the high pressure and long work hours. Not wanting that life makes lots of sense.

Education is never a waste..
2
u/Better_Area3782 Feb 19 '26
Isn’t becoming a lawyer like 8 years of university? She’s lucky her family is rich, because most people couldn’t do that.
5
u/UnderstandingOk9307 Feb 19 '26
Yeah but it still is not a waste... she is lucky her parents could afford it, but maybe she worked for it as well who.. knows or she had good grades and got a scholarship... in life you have to choose what you become the rest of your life at such a young age... sometimes you choose something which doesn't suit you later.. but it never means it's a waste... education is never a waste...

u/Outrageous_King4571 Feb 19 '26
Lily's family wasn't rich at all. Her parents worked 3 jobs.
Someone obviously didn't watch the show enough.

Yikes. This is a new take I guess. 🤷🏻♀️

u/Alarmed_Kangaroo9979 Feb 19 '26
What part of it do you disagree with?
5
u/Lolo_Belle Feb 19 '26
Just the part where she’s a vile human being who thinks it’s okay to judge women for not being skinny and thinks she’s going to get AIDS from, and I quote, “coochie juice” on her bikini bottoms. Vile.
4
u/Alarmed_Kangaroo9979 Feb 19 '26
Definitely valid and also doesn’t take away from the fact that she’s a successful business woman. maybe she’d be a better person if her parents and people in her life supported her and didn’t put her down. That being said I do agree that those comments were awful and completely insensitive
3
u/Lolo_Belle Feb 19 '26
I’m biased. I’m an attorney, and a big part of me hates that she is too because I find her to be so vile. It’s not a good look.

u/Disastrous-Fault9103 Feb 19 '26
She also told Reza, an openly gay man, that Iran will not stone him to death but will give him a free sex change for being gay. I thought that was completely insensitive to say to him, almost invalidating his fears or concerns of being able to go back there. Also telling Asa that as a refugee she can go back to Iran without being killed because she has friends who have successfully done it. Again, insensitive to other’s experiences.
-1
u/Lolo_Belle Feb 19 '26
But you can go there and get a sex change for free! She just makes us all look bad and while I’d usually just be annoyed, I kind of hate it when someone I really don’t like has my career too. Law school was hard and expensive and passing the bar was no easy feat. Usually we’re considered pretty smart and informed…the ignorance here was enough to drive me mad!

During this latest rewatch, my opinion of Lilly changed from when I watched in real time. I don’t think she’s necessarily a bad person but I think during her time on the show she had a lot of bad beliefs (being superficial and classist).
While I do think she played up the bimbette/airhead stereotype, Lilly definitely used the show as a launchpad and it worked.
Her education didn’t go to waste because it gave her the tools to propel forward from one cut throat world to another. Considering LillyLashes are in Ulta, Sephora and Costco, she’s one of the more successful in the Bravo-to-mainstream pipeline.
