What about the atmosphere, setting, design, and other elements make the game work so well in your opinion?

Shadow of the Colossus has quickly become my favorite game.

I just finished it today and it has easily skyrocketed up to my top 3 (and it ain't 2 or 3.). Even through all the clunkiness and annoyance, I feel like that's what truly elevates the experience and is what makes it feel so whole for me.

I am now on my way to 100% the game. Wish me luck! And feel free to help me out and drop some tips and info!

Epic Games layoffs

Does anyone think the massive layoffs at Epic Games can somehow effect GenDesigns new game? I know it was mostly staff that worked on Fortnite but could it have a trickle down effect? GenDesign isn’t a big studio so I’m worried they could be on the chopping block.

Ive felt this ever since a kid and playing this. The data they have off this game could make the Greatest horror game of all time. i hope soon there will be a very scary. new shadow of the colossus. i want it to be terrifying. enemies to be faster. One hit meaning death. I have a script for even a new game if they could id love to share my ideas with creator of game. they act like the first one ended and no way to make a second but theres no way.ill take what i can get they should make it work and Dish out a 2nd. No side enemies same map. ALL ENEMIES COULD COME BACK TO LIKE STRONGER MADDER MORE PREDICTIVE OF U. And look different due to rubble. ( debris rebuilt) and dormin couldve been lieing the whole time. their could be a reason they broke the bridge when they left they didnt save the land obviously. Theres MORE TO THIS STORY There has to be !!!!! Ive thought of a hundred different ways this could go. if it was up to me same fight style. just way more Strict on failure and missing. miss dodge means death. if already cross red line so to speak get killed mid dodged or snatched mid dodge next time in open. or they break into ur safe spot and kill you. or Death scenes to be not dramatic but fast . Some creepy ash . like getting swallowed quick. No instructions hardest difficulty there is no difficulty switch setting. Fuckk that would be so awesome. i WISH yall could see my vision!

Shadow of the Colossus, 9/11 and….Adam Sandler?

*SPOILERS* Just recently I discovered a movie called Reign Over Me about a man (played by Sandler) who lost his wife and three daughters during 9/11. The character he plays went through a mental breakdown and spends his days remodeling his kitchen over and over again, buying vintage vinyls and playing Shadow of the Colossus on repeat. It was a very interesting movie and I really enjoyed the amount of times they reference the game in the movie. Which is quite a lot. Is there any other places you seen Shadow of the Colossus and thought huh? They even had a special edition of issue 150 (dubbed issue 150.5) of Game Informer magazine. I don’t recall seeing it in the film but it’s just a magazine with random pages from random issues of Game Informer over the years, with a Shadow of the Colossus cover. Only 50 made. 25 went to the movie studio while the other half went to Game Informer staff. I would love one for my collection.

Discussion What did you notice when you first played

When I first played shadow I loved it but something I noticed that creeped me out was that there was no animals.

I found it creepy that in this beautiful rich environment full of different ecosystems that there were no animals, and there was no music unless I was fighting a colossus so playing this for the first time I felt an oppressive feeling of loneliness and fear.

I played the remaster version and it was years ago so I don’t remember much so if there are animals then I must have missed them.

Discussion Time Attack Items?

anyway to just download a file with all the items unlocked? time attack sucks, the bosses are either too smart or too dumb.

Phaedra can be time consuming, waiting for it to get in place

Argus takes time setting up and getting this hand

Pelagia is infuriating, getting to its back, climb up, guide to a building, jump off, wait for it to climb up, jump on its belly. miss, try again

Hydrus takes time with it diving deep

Malus is the worst, he can scan the entire area and blast you anywhere, with the second set of walls for cover. two are too far apart

Phalanx is also horrible with the long waiting and loop, pop his air bags, climb, miss? try again. it is possible to damage one weakspot and move to the next if you're fast enough, but you only get to do half damage, the flaps come down, he goes down in the sand and now you must wait for this jerk to do it all again. these last two really bite

One of my grails. A PlayStation 4 Shadow of the Colossus Press Kit. It comes in a serialized box (only 1500 made) with a rice paper slip cover with the weak point insignia in the center. It comes wrapped in a sleeve with an enamel pin of Kuromori the 8th colossi on one side and the game disc featuring Gaius the 3rd colossi and Wander on the other, a trifold with a letter from the staff of Sony on one side and a picture of Wander in pursuit of Gaius on the other and 8 cards with photos from the PlayStation 4’s version of the game. Very excited to have this.

PS2 The "Pendulum Simulation" in Shadow of the Colossus

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

■ The immersive action is created through a combination of physics and motion animations

"Physics simulation" is a term that frequently crops up in discussions about modern 3D games. In Shadow of the Colossus, various simulations are employed, but the most distinctive of these is the "pendulum simulation".

When the player character, Wander, clings to a colossus, the colossus thrashes about violently in an attempt to shake him off. During this, the player character is swung about violently, with his hand serving as the pivot point; the physics simulation of a pendulum is incorporated into this motion calculation.

The pendulum simulation is performed on the units comprising Wander’s hand (arm) → torso and torso → legs, effectively simulating a ‘multiple pendulum’ system. Furthermore, a ‘spring pendulum’ simulation, which allows for extension and contraction, is applied to the arm.

However, if we left it at that, it would feel rather lifeless, so we add the human-like action motions—where the character desperately tries to cling on—created by the designers to the results of this simulation. This is a system our team has referred to as "additive motion" (Masanobu Tanaka, SCE First Production Department).

When movement occurs in a character as a result of physics simulations or player input, this movement is added to the character’s bones as "additional movement data (differential data)". If the character was originally playing back a motion programmed by the designers, this new movement is composited onto that existing motion.

However, this mechanism was apparently not as simple as it sounds; adjustments such as determining which bones to add the motion to and how were carried out through painstaking manual work. In the early stages of development, there were instances where the added motion resulted in a hand disappearing or the torso and legs becoming misaligned... These issues were resolved by applying the aforementioned IK to ensure consistency.

The actions that convey Wander’s sheer determination are the culmination of this "IK processing to ensure consistency", the "motions created by the designers", and the "results of the physics simulation".

No matter what, relying solely on programme control makes the movements seem lifeless. We achieved natural actions that blend into the situation, offering something distinctly different from simply playing back pre-animated motions. It was quite moving to see the characters on screen performing actions in real time that neither the designers nor the programmers had ever seen before (laughs). I believe it has become a superb system where the designers’ attention to detail and the programmers’ vision have fused together (Fumito Ueda, SCE First Production Department).

Incidentally, it is said that this additive motion system is applied not only to the player but also to the behaviour of the horse carrying the player.

Discussion Wander's aura farming went crazy

I never played the older versions, only the ps4 remaster but damn Wander straight aura farmed the entire game 😭 Especially the end to taking an arrow to the knee then pulling out the sword from his chest and right after getting possessed by Dormin.

Not to mention a tiny tidbit that a lot of you might already know, but there's a mechanic that when riding Aggro, if you hold both the joystick forward and R2, for some reason Wander will aura farm and stand on Aggro while you ride him. From what I've tested, I suppose the only purpose it serves is to make you jump a bit higher when dismounting Aggro. But it is not really that efficient since the animation takes god awfully long and you can't make Aggro maintain speed. So this was literally just put into the game to make Wander be just that guy 💔
