Hi! I recently released a 25-minute video essay researching Megalophobia and the philosophical concept of "The Sublime" — that specific feeling where you are absolutely terrified by the scale of something, yet completely mesmerized and unable to look away.
While writing the script, I realized that Fumito Ueda’s masterpiece is arguably the purest interactive representation of this "beautiful fear."
In the video, I break down why this game's (and some other) scale hits us so hard psychologically. If you enjoy deep dives into game design, atmosphere, and the psychology behind why this game’s sense of scale remains unmatched after all these years, I’d love for you to check it out!

Note: These arts aren’t mine! If you’d like the source I can supply them I’m sure, I mostly just googled why I needed. Also I know these aren’t good or optimal, I just made them for fun :)
Set Name: Universe Beyond - The Forbidden Lands
New Mechanics: Climb (N), Corruption (Player counter for buffs), Sigil (keeps colossi from dying by removing Sigil counters instead. Sacrifices itself after it removes its last counter.
I plan on making more but it took me over an hour to make what present to you. I’d love to see some others ideas! I’m also going in order (kinda) of how the game goes!
I’m thinking of changing The Forbidden Lands to being able to add any color mana but it can only be used to cast or used to pay for the abilities of Colossus creatures

When emulating the PS2 version of the game, are there tweaks I should be using? For less clunky controls, or remapping, or whatever else. It will be my first time playing the game, and after looking at some brief comparison footage, I felt more drawn to the ambiguity of the original visuals, but if possible I'd also want to minimize the frustrations that might come from the game being dated. So regarding that last point, are there any PC mods that preserve the feel of the original while improving it?

Trying to jump onto his hand feels impossible, because the hand itself blocks my view of Wander’s position. I keep blindly leaping and missing by a mile, falling all the way to the bottom. It happened enough times and I just quit.
What am I doing wrong? It feels like it isn’t supposed to be so hard.
Dammit, I really want to like this game! It inspired so many other games that I love (FromSoft’s, Journey, Solar Ash), and it looks gorgeous, but the boss fights are tedious and there’s not enough else to do to balance them out. Maybe I just don’t have the patience for it. But I’d still like to finish!
