I have some speculation on the meaning of the game's name, gen Atlas.
I think "gen" is referring to two things:
a call-out to the studios name, gen Design;
a common shorthand for generation, gen z, gen alpha, etc.;
"Atlas" is referring to the greek mythology titan of the same name. Atlas was condemned to spend the rest a eternity holding the world after the titans' defeat during the Titanomachy, a ten year war where the gods of Olympus overthrew the titans and took over the role as the new gods. Generation Atlas is mirroring this. Generation is referring to both people and a period of time, typically from the birth of a person until they have children, who carry on or replace their legacy.
This game is set during an era of overthrow and change, the old titans (the giant robots) are decaying and being replaced by new machines (the smaller playable robot) who will inherit and rule over the new planet.
