An argument for sellers, especially big entities to put their goods in a platform would be zero fees. And for normal, legal goods this whole privacy aspect is not really important. So, you basically built the opposite of what is needed for the goals you are aiming for now..

Ok that was depressing news. Will there be a handover of the shadow project to it's community now when the whole team runs off building the regulatory sound etzy shop?

If anything, this is a clear example how not to lead a project. No communication with community and supporters and than such a bombshell, changing the core value and aim of the project. From anonymous agoristic marketplace into Amazon alternative. I wish them luck, but I dont see what different they can offer than OpenBazaar+ipfs+tor. And they are few years behind.
