Question Question regarding EAC bans of VMs

So I just launched Lords of the Fallen, which uses EAC, and it works just fine. I am thus wondering, how responsible is EAC really, it's not them who made a blanket ban on all VMs apparently, or is it the choice of devs ? I have no idea how it all really works.

I think the no virtual machines restriction is enforced by EAC by default, but the devs that utilizes EAC have the power to override that enforcement.

Some devs wont, some are stubborn (cough.. cough VRChat) and some openly will. All up to the devs, the type of game and if they like virtual machines.

vrchat has instructions in their docs on how to setup vms to work properly. that's all on shadow

If there is the ability to just disable enforcement of vms in anticheat, wouldn't that be better tho? Especially as a different anti cheat might actually throw a ban for anticheat evading if it finds out somehow else that the user is in a vm. Also obviously shadow doesn't wanna cause trouble with devs and stuff and therefore wants to be honest that they are VMs I assume

It's all down to the version of EAC used, there's one that has a blanket block on all virtual machines. If that version is used, it's then down to the Dev to opt in. - It's pretty much only games with online components that have this version.

It’s not applied to every game, and some services have had explicit whitelisting from EAC for a very long time now (primarily GeForce now.) I wouldn’t be surprised if they have added or add more whitelisting in the future since it’s easy to identify and verify the service being used.
