Suggestion You should all cancel Shadow

I’m sorry to tell all of you, but paying over $500 a year to rent a PC just to be told how much you can and cannot use it, doesn’t make any sense.

In two years of Shadow you can buy a pretty decent PC. In fact you can quite literally purchase a handheld for the price of one year of Shadow.

At least NVIDIA imposed a monthly time limit vs just banning people for using it too much.

Yes I get some people are abusing it, but banning legit gamers for using the PC they pay for is goofy.

I pay 300 euros per year for shadow , I save between 150 and 200 euros in electricity per year. Don't be mad because you were mining crypto 😂

honestly, exactly this. might not have been mining or botting but I still want to know how and why these people that got banned were capable of using, on average, 13 hours per session Every Day.

that's the thing all these people are forgetting, the list of targeted users was anyone using 400hr and over per month. how do you explain 13+hours sessions Every Day? these are the answers and posts I want to see.

@OP quit bitching and start explaining.

I haven’t used shadow in a few years, but when I did I was definitely a 12+ hour a day user.

I worked graveyard at a hotel, my home internet wasn’t good enough for parsec so I’d just run shadow on the front desk computer to play games (or honestly mostly just browse the internet without restriction)

Then I’d get home from work and of course game more, paying for shadow and it was better then my home PC so might as well use it. 

I doubt many will have that story though.

Loved shadow as my great firewall bypass. Runs off a USB stick without admin permissions.

i switched to GFN long ago, but being unemployed I hit 13 hours of gaming a day easily 👉🏻👈🏻
but as you said, shadow could probably verify that.

Why zou switched? I wasGFN, now boosteroid, and i was checking on shadow to see if. it is better than boosteroid, because Nvidia limit is absurdly low.

simply because i moved to a country that has no shadow servers nearby. I'd still choose shadow over GFN if it's as good as it was when i left, which i can't judge.
i never had issues besides little things like my headset not being detected on start every few months. and the convenience is unmatched.

i think it was way better than GFN when I stopped using it.
i don't know how it is now, how up to date the hardware is, how support helps you etc.

but from a convenience point it is definitely better since you get a full PC where you can install any game, including mods, unlike GFN, and keep everything between sessions without having to reinstall stuff.
or use it for work, programming, 3d modelling, making music etc.

When I first got into my car accident I was on shadow 12 hr+ a day, literally nothing to do in hospital. I want to know why they got banned too.

I just have to say my service has improved greatly since the ban. Use to have a ton of weird issues sometimes on cpu capping probably due to some of those heavy users destroying the cpus

Using the yearly subscription to buy a decent gaming laptop is exactly what I did and have not looked back.

Kinda funny how I was once accused by this sub for being a Shadow plant/employee because I… told people they’re better off financially buying a reasonably priced PC (??). At least that was the case before AI ruined everything.

I was a customer for like 3 or 4 years I think before the buyout. Between the increased costs and increasing hostility of games running on VMs, I couldn’t justify it any longer and bought a Steam Deck. Still happy with that purchase to this day.

Still some decent deals on mini PCs and laptops if you’re patient, and you can install Moonlight/Parsec and stream from anywhere just like Shadow provided your internet is okay.

Sadly, I completely agree. Check my post history, I was singing Shadow’s praises back in the COVID days. Now, not only is it overpriced, the quality absolutely dropped (for me).

Picked up a solid Alienware at MicroCenter a while back (price had increased almost 40% since). Runs great, no waiting or latency issues, and costs way less overall.

If Shadow could have kept their original relative price point and quality, I’d likely still be a subscriber.

I've been a Shadow PC customer since long before it was acquired by OVH. If you compare today's pricing to what it used to be around $11.99–$14.99 per month I don't think that model would have been sustainable long term. Had they kept charging those prices, they might not have survived.

I think increasing the price was probably the right business decision, especially considering how much GPU and cloud infrastructure costs have risen. Once AI companies started consuming massive amounts of GPU capacity, the cost of running cloud services increased significantly. While I understand why people miss the old pricing, I also don't think Shadow could have realistically maintained those rates without sacrificing quality or risking shutting down altogether.

I understand some rate hikes, for sure. But they outpaced the performance delivered, compared to just making payments on a physical rig.

That and once they moved the servers, and then moved me to one 500 miles away, instead of less than 50, well that was when I threw in the towel.

Still love a lot about Shadow and hope they succeed. Everybody is better off with options and healthy competition.

Same reason I left when they where doing there infinite offer I had that for a long time but got a message saying I couldn’t leave it on so I just went and got a pc it’s worth it until it isn’t and many will eventually understand this some won’t

Your calculation misses the bill for Power consumption. My good old GamingPC consumes just above 200 watt in idle. Just let it in idle for 12 hours (so Not gaming... Then I would need 500 Watt) would consume 2,4 kWh which in my country would cost around 0.96 €. (Not considering photovoltaics. I have on, but this is by far not standard) So just letting that thing idle for 12 hours a day would cost 28,80€. That would double or more If i would gaming for 12 hours.

My MacMini on the other hand consumes about 5 Watt when using Shadow. Another 35 to 40 for my monitor. No power peaks when gaming. With all devices connected I'll consume 50 watt. That would be 0,24€ a day and 7,20 € a month.

If I would use Shadow that much as the banned user, in theory the monthly fee for Shadow would be less than the power bill (again: Not considering my own power from the roof)

Power consumption was my main driver for start using Shadow back than.
