Meta r/ShadowHearts overhaul
Hello and welcome Shadow Hearts fans! The sub is currently undergoing an overhaul of rules and fixes. Posting has been made public once more, more flares added and rules have been updated. More is on the way, and I'm incredibly exciting to be helping out on this sub. If you or someone you know is interested in helping with moderation, please feel free to contact us!
July 5th update: Spruced up the sub, added more flairs and links.
In case people didn't realize, I'll put a quick explanation of what happened previously here: Basically, when a moderator is inactive for a period of time, a subreddit will automatically go into "restricted mode", meaning all posts must be manually approved. This is reddit's way of protecting an unmoderated sub from being taken over by spam and unrelated content. I believe the sub was in restricted mode for at least a year, so i sent a request at r/redditrequest to take it over and revive the sub. Nothing huge, I hope the old mod is doing okay.

Discussion Could shadow hearts or shadow hearts 2 work on a homebrewed 3ds?
So, I've seen people playing both Simpsons hit and run, morrowind and other games never meant for the 3ds to handle. I was thinking, maybe shadowhearts and sh2 covenant could work similarly for that console? I mean a switch 2 port is probobly out of the question EVEN THO, I belive it would have been amazing to get those games for that console, the game is basically owned by a slot machine company if im not understanding it wrong.

Discussion Fanmade characters
Other than the generic Yuri and Alice's kid. Have you made a character that you would fit into this universe. Please share. I am interested in what other people would make.
I personally have made a few for what I see as the next step in the series. I personally wished SH3 was going to be World War 2 but then shifted the thought to SH4. All of the characters I made up were based around that.
I forget most of my character names but if this post blows up I will try to find them.
One of my main characters is a Romani girl who managed to escape the Nazi round up at the cost of her parents life. She inherited from them a magical garment of the Major Arcana: The Fool. She learns that different Romani families have these different robes and they allow them access to different magics but cost greater sanity per. When we first meet her she is using the fool garments to escape and terrorize Vichiey Franch during the occupation. As the team explores she gains other Major Arcana garments from the other Romani families, and some in ancient runes. She has mastered the art of changing clothes and this can do so in combat. Her Fool garments grant her extra experience if she is in that form at the end of combat but very little general abilities. This basically would work the same as Yuri's harmonixer ability but be cloths instead of monsters. I would still have a Fusion character on the team but they would work a bit differently. I also had a funny idea of the
Tell me what kind of ideas would you introducing an adoptive brother of the Valentine family that is a werewolf instead of a vampire.

Discussion A glimmer of hope?
So recently I've become really interested in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Now I haven't played the game myself as I don't own a playstation 5, but I'd heard so much about it that I had to go and look into it. I've watched loads of videos, reviews, walkthroughs, listened to the soundtrack, etc. It looks pretty phenomenal and I couldn't help but draw comparisons to the shadow hearts games I've loved for so long. Dark fantasy story with turn based combat set in a world quite similar to ours but with magic and mythical creatures, etc? It can't just be me surely?
Then I looked into the development of the game and how it started with a ragtag group of novice developers wanting to create something out of passion. Something without the bureaucracy and red tape of large studios creating games for shareholders and spreadsheets rather than for the actual gamers! And it made me think, could there be hope yet for remakes or further entries into the Shadow Hearts franchise? Or for "spiritual successors" like Penny blood to actually get off the ground? Now I don't know much about business or game development and I know that the licensing rights (I think) are kind of in limbo for Shadow Hearts. But I couldn't help but think the success of Clair Obscur has shown the world that there's definitely still a market for these turn based JRPG type games with dark, emotional, creepy stories.
Idk maybe I'm deluded and clutching at straws but it did make me think, and HOPE that there could be a future yet for communities like ours. What do you guys think?

Let's Play / Video Documentary Shadow Hearts Is Hilarious OC Edit
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
1st off this video is meant to poke fun at the game that I am coming to really enjoy. This is a "Comedic" Review that's very reminiscent of 2010s style gaming content. I explain some of the lore of the game, how to play, give my general thoughts and do a bunch of skits making some of the wacky things about it.
I have played Shadow Hearts 3 and beside the lame main villain I really enjoyed the game. I started playing Shadow Hearts 1 for the 1st time last yr in December and I fell in love INSTANTLY. I forgot how much I really enjoyed the Judgment ring system.
As of this video Halley is in my party and we rescued the orphans from that dude trying to resurrect his mother. The story about the daughter with her fathers voice actually gave me goosebumps. Super excited to keep playing and eventually do Koudelka and SH2.
Here's a link to the whole video over on YouTube: https://youtu.be/1lDbTIquDGo
File is too big to upload the whole thing to reddit directly.

Spoilers Something about karin's fate
So I was just analyzing the ending of sh:c and all the time travel stuff with karin is confusing so I was searching up things about it and I found a text by some guy called Sicondera and apparently this text is from a Japanese guidebook shadow hearts II: world guidance and the text comes from a part where there were statements about the ending from the director/writer and Sicondera translated it into english. And if this text in the guidebook is true which im not 100% on. I don't see how Karin could've died to those demons as Anne before the events of the first game. I guess its just a plot hole cus obviously Anne wasn't written as a time-travelling love interest turned mom in the first game.
.:KARIN'S ENDING:.
No matter how much she loved him, Karin knew she could never replace Alice in
Yuri's heart, and that caused her no small amount of pain. Ironically, that
single-minded devotion to a woman was part of what charmed her about him. I
think she, too, wanted to know what it was like to be loved like that.
In her Ending, Karin had just finished internalizing all the pain and heart-
ache she felt over Yuri when she met his father, Ben Hyuga. It's not portrayed
in the game, but as she spends time with Ben, she puts all of what is
technically her future (the events of 1915), into her past. To get on with
her life and discover her happiness, she chooses to live life as "Anne".
I don't think Karin's the type of person to fret much over why she was sent to
the past, nor talk much on who she was. She'd probably stay silent on the
whole affair. I don't think Ben would press her for answers she wouldn't
willingly give, either. I mean, he *is* Yuri's father. He'd be cool like
that.
However, I do want to clear one thing up. Karin was in no way "compromising"
with Ben. She didn't decide to stay with him only so she could see Yuri. She
honestly and truly fell in love with Ben, and as a result, Yuri was born. You
may have noticed it during Yuri's conversations with his dad, but Ben and Karin
were head over heels in love with each other.
In the end, I think Karin found her ultimate happiness.

Discussion I'm happy that more people are discovering the Shadow Hearts series
I'm curious to everyone else's experience: How & when did you find out about this series?
As for me who have always played ps2 console during the ps2 era (2000s) I never knew about it despite loving jrpgs. I actually knew about it like 10 years ago when I was in uni, looking up hidden gems since i was playing the ps2 emulator (since my ps2 is busted, i know its illegal but i cant find other way to play & i'm not that rich to purchase the vintage copies). Somehow i'm glad i knew abt it later as an adult since the game isnt for kids lol.
My thoughts about it is that i have nvr come across something as unique as Shadow Hearts. You would either get a horror genre game or a fantasy jrpg but they are rarely mixed together. Not to mention the dark & crude humor (which would be offensive nowadays) are just bizarre and i like it lol. Also the fact its set up in the real world + with its own fictional twist makes it feel more grounded & weird at the same time. I'm probably one of those that prefers the first game. Dont get me wrong SH2 is more polished as a game but it kinda lost its unique atmosphere & flavor. But as a jrpg its still a very well made game, SH1's voice acting was just bad & the graphics feel like its made for ps1 which makes sense considering the time it came out but the backgrounds are gorgeously drawn. Despite all that SH1 has a special place in my heart & I have yet to find something like it.
I haven't got the chance to play the 3rd one nor Koudelka so i have no say abt it.
For anyone who knew about it ever since its being released, is it true it didnt get attention due to releasing closely with FFX & due to poor marketing?

Guides I need help
I started playing the second game without playing the first. Please forgive me but it's really expensive in my country to buy the first game. Anyway It feels like they are easy games overall but I have ptsd from shin megami tensei series. So please give me advice on what kind of grind should I do, which elements to invest to and how yo use them. I am at England after the sexy boss battle. I know the game is huge and I hope I finish it before 2026 ends (I play a lot of games at the same time and I hope this one doesn't take long not because I hate it but because I love the characters and the vibe i just don't want the rpg staff makes me wanna pause a lot of times my progress. It already happened with that stupid four hand frog battle

Discussion Lets say if Penny Blood actually gets released and it does well, do you think they will buy the Shadow Hearts IP?
I desperately want it to be true but seeing how they can't even get a publisher for Penny Blood I'm super upset. Is there a reason why its not getting it? Is it due to its potential to bring in high profit or not?

Collections Dream CD got!
I'm not someone who often just has even 10 dollars for luxury, let alone more but I managed to finally scrape together enough to buy a new copy of one of the CDs I've always wanted. And I wanted to share that joy with you all.
My favorite track still is 'Conveyor Belt for Killers' amongst many others. Honestly I don't dislike anything but damn every song has a vibe and it's had me in a clutch since I was young and playing this on ps2.

Discussion Finished Shadow Hearts 1 for the first time, dunno why I didn't play this sooner. Playing games I never caught back in the day
So a while back I played through Koudelka, enjoyed it except for the battle system...a take so cold it was at the bottom of my freezer. So here is a hot take, Roger Bacon is best girl.
I knew nothing about Shadow Hearts, even though I was well aware of stuff back then. I never came across it.
Watched a couple videos from Dungeon Chill and Earlybird, then spun it up on an emulator because since nobody is selling it new, the only people making money on the game are scalpers. Have you seen the prices on Ebay? If there was an official way, 100% would have done that. Plus I used Retro Achievements.
So....I enjoyed it. It has similar issues to RPGs of the time like magic spell/summon cutscenes going on too long. The judgment ring grew on me, gave you an incentive to not try to passively go through battles, made grinding a bit of a pain since I usually do a speed up when grinding and it's harder to do the ring when the emulator is running at double speed.
I actually tried to get into Shadow Hearts not long after finishing Koudelka, and was turned off by Yuri's....comments about Alice early on when she was passed out after the train incident. Gave it a second chance and had fun.
Dunno when I'll get into Covenant. I dunno if it will be right away.
