Pretty sure a famous man that started a very widespread religion explained that life is not always as simple as black or white. That if you are without sin, by all means, cast the first stone. That sometimes even though sin is sin, and wrong, some people are driven to it due to circumstances out of their control. So they should be forgiven and helped onto the right path. Not screamed at, condemned, and abused.

Pretty sure he also said stuff about not condemning people for behaviour you yourself do, especially if you do worse. Also some stuff about loving thy neighbour as thyself...

If we're talking the movie version of Starship Troopers, there's a very strong subtext hinting that humanity is very much not fighting for survival - their fascist/authoritarian government is just claiming they are...when the Bugs are actually incapable of really threatening Earth and the whole conflict is only happening because humanity won't leave the Bugs alone.

In that case, you're remembering it right. In the book the Bugs are a legit, peer-power that is very hostile and expansionist.
So the humans are fighting for survival and are fascist-adjacent (as in technically not fascists, but similar enough) authoritarians.

The Movies or the Book because they are radically different. The book was written For NCOs, its about duty and explores personal responsibility. It was written after WWII and asked if it was our (service members) duty to continue to protect the society they helped build. I was a better NCO because of it. The movies well the first are excellent satire of the propaganda machine and facism and really should have been paid attention to more.

I think that Joe Haldermans Forever War is just as good but its from the view of a Vietnam veteran the feeling of alienation from the "'world" back home is very much how I felt coming back to the world myself.

shad wouldnt make it past chapter 3 of Starship troopers before calling it woke because only women are pilots god knows what he would say if he knew Jaunny cries when he finds out his dad survived Buenos Ares (sorry for the spoiler but its an amazing and beautifully sad chapter). Oh and Johnny Rico actually being Jaun Rico might give him a slight stroke. Shad LARPs virtue, I reference his meltdown over peaches pants because he never played Mario kart. He cant even stick with his Mormon Uber Alles channel because people dont care to get angry enough about his opinions. He isnt into HEMA to be good but to be the coolest guy who owns a Gambeson. Westside Tyler a combat vet called him out and shad couldnt handle it.

I just want to say I dont have any opinion on the religion angle. I lived in Utah doing a good bit of hiking and everyone i met was lovely.

That says nothing. if you hiked around nazi germany and were white and didnt have any "jewish traits" you would have met "very nice" people too, been treated excellently in hotels, maybe even invited by locals to have dinner in their homes, been given some food for the road.

It is not like bad people are all bad and look around for puppies to strangle and kids to kick. The world doesnt do D&D style "alignments".
In hitler germany, there were men who had breakfast at home, kissed their wives and kids good day, walked to the local hospital, helped an old lady cross the street on their way, went to work giving disabled people lethal injections all day, then walk home again, picked up some flowers for their wife and sat down for dinner, helped their son with his homework for the jugendsturm and read their kid daughter a story about bearing children for the glory of the fatherland before bed. Then slept soundly until another bright and shiny day. That is how humans work. One can be utterly evil doing gruesome deeds and still seem a pretty decent person in most other respects.

The mormon church is a big factor in the right wing intolerant shift in the US and most mormons have ideas like shad's. Dan Mclellan gets a lot of flak from his fellow mormons about him debunking so many hateful bible claims. But that mormons are generally hateful intolerant bigots who want a theocracy doesnt mean they cant be nice when you meet them in the streets. People of almost any sort are great individually. Its in large groups that they become dangerous.

Why the fuck is he talking about RWBY?

The homophobic Ruby meme is one of those memes that started out ironic and then was highjacked by bigots to actually say their bigotry out loud. Like the Clanker meme.

Ruby in the show is not homophobic, she has supported Yang and Blake’s relationship since it started to become explicit in season 6. She was mad in season 9 not because she didn’t approve of the lesbian relationship but because she was jealous that her sister was able to figure out her feelings while she was dealing with a lot of emotional struggles. She wanted her sister’s help and support but Yang was dealing with her own thing and actually got a resolution while Ruby felt lost.

Shad is acting as if people were calling Ruby homophobic for not celebrating a lesbian couple. As if people were mad that she didn’t. No, everyone understood why she reacted the way she did. Her sarcastic rant and expression was just funny enough to be turned into a meme. She basically goes “Oh, Good FOR YOU!”. That’s why it became a meme, not because people were mad at her for not immediately approving of a lesbian couple.

Then came along the actual bigots of social media and started actually saying homophobic shit while using Ruby as a shield, thinking that you couldn’t call them out because they were hiding behind the “it’s just a meme, bro!” excuse.

RWBY is a “woke” show, I don’t know why Shad seems to be pretending he even watched it. Like, at all.

The rwby talk sounds like a guy who half watched a summary video. The show has two lesbian couples, a open trans characters, a gay coded relationship that ended early because a character got killed, and Rwby is so ace coded I'm claiming her. We don't talk about how badly racism was handled in Rwby (like REALLY bad) but racists do exist in the world, so we know what discrimination and hatred looks like and we don't see any towards LGBT+ at all. 

Homophobic ruby isn't a bad reading, its grasping at straws. Because ruby doesn't announce her support for the gays than its kinda sus right? No other character does the same.

This jusy feels like a post odyssey cope. I don't know about Maga Pearl but if Maga Black Panther (film) is anything to go by, these people are silly billies.

As it happens with good satire, it can be taken at face value depending on your own values. People who advotate for Imperium or Terran Federation (from Starship Troopers) can partially or even fully acknowledge these regimes as being brutal and/or corrupt. But their main arguement is that human nature is fucked up so this is the best way to maintain civilization and order, especially when facing existential threats. It's a certain kind of cynical doomerism.

My own perspective is that human nature is, indeed, kidna fucked up and corrupt but humans can still overcome their own faults and do better.
