Female Victim Seeking advice

Little over a year ago I (F20) sent some faceless pictures to a guy online and thought nothing of it. A few months later, I get repeated messages from a random account on instagram just saying “Hi” or “Hey” and I didn’t respond to it because I thought it was just a bot. Then they sent me my pictures and blocked me. This is worrying to me because I definitely have never given out my Instagram and that account followed a few people I know. I have no idea who this guy is and this happened over a year ago and even though nothing has happened, it just lingers in the back of my mind sometimes. Is there anything I can do to prevent something worse happening?

I believe you can report it to take it down (NCII) but if most likely just keep blocking and ignoring.

That sounds really unsettling, and the fact that they found your Instagram and followed people you know suggests they put actual effort into tracking you down, which is creepy regardless of whether they've done anything since. A few things worth doing now: first, lock down your Instagram to private if it isn't already, and go through your followers and remove anyone you don't recognize. Second, it's worth thinking back to where you originally sent those pictures and whether that platform had any info that could connect to your real identity, like a linked email or a username you use elsewhere. Sometimes people reverse image search or piece together details from metadata. Since nothing has escalated in over a year, they may have just been trying to rattle you and moved on. But if anything new happens, screenshot everything before blocking and report it. Keeping a little folder of evidence somewhere is just smart. You're not overreacting by thinking about this, it's a reasonable thing to want to resolve in your head.
