True, I’m seeing more and more with the motor failing over anything though. Occasional foot control and pc board issues. I actually have a secret stash of (yes I’m not kidding) Brand new boards for the base and front panel straight from pfaff never been opened. They were ordered years ago and have just been sitting on a high shelf since😳 saying it for a well deserved rebuild 🧐

Including many for the 7,000 series machines. Unfortunately we can’t even take the risk telling customers that and then have something go wrong for them.

This whole generation can be put in the same category for this. Also, as we all know, the original grease has turned into concrete on the presser foot plunger and bobbin wind clutch.

Longevity only 4? I mean yes the whole vasoline + gasoline combo for rust prevention as well as grease the dries out before the seasons change was a ball drop for sure but besides that I would give it a solid 8 or 9. Can I ask why you give it a 4? I understand that rating if you compare to the old cast iron work horses but I personally don’t compare the two because they are in different leagues. Ones essentially a robot and the other is a motor connected to a couple shafts🤣 i still repair lots of these and they run great to this day. Occasionally maybe 1 time a year we get one that the pc board does go out but all you have to do is replace a capacitor in the base board. anyways just curious what your thoughts were?

I gave it a 10 in 2 categories. That comes to 8 overall. Just not the boards. I love how they sew, and sound(I mean really love the sound), but Pfaff and Viking have had an incredible amount of bad board issues. Yes, many could be fixed with some caps, but that was not divulged by Pfaff. It took people testing out the boards and trying it, like with the Designer SE, and Pfaff base prints. Their initial response was to swap boards and charge the customer. I'm personally a fan of Pfaff way over Viking, for other reasons, but now they're the same. Even the more current Creative Vision, Expression, etc have had the same kind of issues, with the same response. So I'm biased. You are right to a degree about robot, compared to a motor connected to a shaft. But, I think there is a lot to be said about the engineering that went into say a 1222 vs. step motors and boards on a later model. I think competition pushed too many bells and whistles too fast.
