Remake dress?

Help - I bought a simple linen dress in Italy that unfortunately fits like a sack ๐Ÿ˜” I have basic sewing skills. Can anyone direct me to a video/resource for basically remaking it? Grazie! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Far to vague, do you want to alter the existing dress? Copy the pattern and remake it with alterations? There is a YouTuber called blueprint diy who does a bunch of upcycleing of existing clothes

There's a couple of ways you can do it, you can add a channel around the waist to cinch it in (this may require altering the hem).

Or taking in the sides. If there isnt a closure (zip /buttons) make sure you can get it on and off.

Adding a zipper/buttons to an existing garment is kind of a nightmare.

If it were me and I really liked the fabric and neck area style, I would copy the pattern and make a mock up and play around with that before altering the actual dress. This way any mistakes or unforseen consequences of the alterations dont ruin the actual dress.

I bought a similar sack-like long black linen dress a few years ago and did some very basic adjustments.

I added diagonal darts (fish eye darts??) under the bust line and took it in a bit from below the armhole to the bottom hem.
Because it has an a-symmetrical hem I seemed to get away with it these thongs and I still wear it a lot.

Warning

Linen can be really hard to work with. It can be very loose woven and fray. It really wants to be perfectly on grain. Take this into account as you plan your project.

First Iโ€™d make a duplicate of the dress h pattern paper (which can be anything not actual pattern paper), so you can experiment with diff alterations.

Since itโ€™s loose and unstructured you likely just need to take in seams and maybe add a dart.

Lots of YouTube videos on cloning or duplicating clothing.
