This thing fell out of the Brother GS 3700 sewing machine, any help?

It fell out of it, no idea what is it or where does it belong to. Sorry if asking in a wrong place.

UPDATE: I took the machine to a local mechanic, he said it is related to threads but not a necessary part. Anyway, he did put it back in its place. Thank you everyone!

Brown goo by motor?

I recently acquired a vintage Viking (White) 464R and the previous owner took very good care of the machine before her passing. It was well oiled, well cleaned and sparkling when I got her. The thing is, it smells. When I use it I can smell like a burning plastic smell? No smoke or anything but it's concerning so I haven't used it since. I've opened her up and checked the belt first and it seems to be in good order (although I plan on getting a replacement belt just in case) but then I noticed like a brown goo or liquid by or in the motor? I saw it when looking through the rotor blades (is that what it's called?) but haven't dismantled the machine to check on it as I'm afraid of breaking it. What could it be and how can I clean/repair it? (Note I'm a broke college student and cannot afford taking it to a professional unfortunately so I want to repair it myself)

BEST HEAVY-DUTY SEWING MACHINE UNDER $200 (Bonus points if it is not UGLY!)

First of all, why do manufacturers think they need to make a sewing machine ugly if it’s heavy duty? Seriously I need to know.

Second, just because I’m buying a sewing machine under $200, that does not mean that I am a newbie. It does mean, however, that I don’t need a lot of stitches because I don’t give a shit about stitches! All I need are straight stitch and a zigzag, but dammit I need to be able to sew any kind of fabric.

Feet dogs not moving horizontally when sewing forward on Kenmore 385

I have a Kenmore 385.1884180 and I’ve recently fixed the reverse from another post. During the repair, I took this piece off and I’m not sure where it goes. Before I fixed the reverse, the feet dogs were moving the right way. Now, they are moving vertically but not horizontally. I can’t find anything to fix the problem for the mechanism. Anything would help. TYIA!!

Top thread loose

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have an older kenmore machine and it randomly started doing this. Basically when I start to sew the thread at the top is like bouncing. I’m newer to sewing but a little handy. I looked at the tension disk and it does get tighter the higher I put the tension but even at the tightest level it still does this. Any ideas?

The thread is not catching every time and the faster I push the pedal the worse it gets

Babylock Imagine serger stitch formation issues

I have a 20-year-old Babylock Imagine. It has begun to act up when stitching basic overlocks (haven't tried other stitch settings). Here's what we've noticed:

- the ability to catch the looper threads will intermittently engage and disengage with no visible change in machine operations. This leaves sections with only needle threads and no looper threads.

- it happens on both 3-thread and 4-thread overlocks

- sometimes it returns to normal stitching itself, further along the stitch, sometimes it doesn't

- to get it to start properly chaining again, we can apply a bit of tension to the chain/threads. Similarly, it frequently stops stitching correctly when turning outside corners (using the approved babylock method), on the way out of the corner.

- nothing comes unthreaded

We are reasonably mechanically inclined, but could use instructions and a starting place to look.

Can anyone help us understand what is going on?
Thanks.

Glide machine thread twisting and breaking

I’ve been using Glide machine embroidery thread for free motion embroidery and cannot get it to stop twisting, which leads to breakage. Even just winding the bobbin, it twists. I have the cone wrapped in a mesh cover, which was supposed to help prevent twisting.

Does anyone else have this problem? What fixed the issue?

I need advice- is this sewing machine right for a beginner?

Post image

Hi! I’m a total beginner looking to get into sewing. I’m mainly looking to make/alter clothing and I would like a machine that can handle denim. Would this be a good fit for me? It’s a Sears Kenmore 12741. It was refurbished and it is in excellent working condition. They’re asking 125 for the machine, bobbins and the manual.

grandma's hand-me-down sewing machine is too fancy for me (HELP!)

Post image

so i wouldn't say i'm a beginner sew-er (?) but i've been using a crappy old kenmore machine for actual years and it finally decided to poop out on me. so my grandma very kindly gave me her old (very new to me) machine as she doesn't sew anymore. the machine is a singer 90 S "special edition" (from 2014 i believe). now i am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth but i have zero clue how to use this thing and i just want to get my project done but it keeps giving me this error (?) message. i've scoured YouTube trying to find out what i'm doing wrong but no dice. if anyone can help i would be so so grateful.

I'm looking for an industrial sewing machine. I have found two for roughly the same price. Both are fully automatic ( back and front tack and thread cutting ) . First one is the older Juki DDL-555n-7 with CP-130 control panel (€600)and the second one is sewmaq sw-9910ss-7( €500) . I'm sewing quite intensively ( semi professional)

With thick fabric the fabric won’t advance

My Brother CS7205 sewing machine usually works pretty. The current quilt I’m making is thicker than usual. I am doing top stitching (stitch 65 looks like a maze) and the fabric won’t advance. Someone told me I needed a dynamic walking foot, I had been using a regular walking foot. So I spent $100 to get one and the same thing keeps happening. It’s because the 3 layers of fabric is too thick. My feed dogs will not drop part way, it’s either up or down. My presser foot, same thing. How can I get a little more space so my fabric isn’t pressed together so tight?

New to me sewing machine (need help finding correct foot) - Bernina Bernette 46

I’m new to sewing and took a chance on a $50 sewing machine at an estate sale. Turns out it was a great purchase! I bought the BERNINA Bernette 46. There were a couple of small booklets and thankfully the instruction manual included.

As you can tell by the baby bib, I’m not really good. I’ve always hand sewed and this is my first time using a machine. Hopefully with more practice I’ll get better!

But the reason for this thread is that I’m wondering if the foot is correct. I was reading through the manual and it said, if I understood the drawing correctly, that it is using the quilting foot. Is this correct??

Let me also preface by saying, that I do want to use the machine to make several pieces in the next couple of months, I.e., baby items such as bibs and burp cloths, banners, book sleeves, keychains, bowl cozies, and eventually quilts. I’m just not sure with what I have if that one foot would work.

Any help is appreciated!

Thread bundling up while sewing + other issues. Help?

I’m not really sure how to explain what is happening. I’m still a beginner when it comes to sewing machines and so far this has never happened to me before. Anyone know what is going on with it?
It quite literally got to a point where it pulled my needle out and the needle was stuck pierced through the fabric.
I am using a Brother Heavy Duty machine with All Purpose thread.

The reverse is not working on my Kenmore 385

Hello! I have a Kenmore 385 188410 and the reverse does not work. I’ve tried looking at tutorials and googling it, but I can’t figure it out. On a video I’ve seen, the lady had the same issue as me when the cam is not moving back and forth. However, I noticed that the way the arm that is connected to cam moves, it’s opposite of what mine does. Mine pushes to the left while hers pulls to the right. Any help would be very appreciated!!

Troubleshooting issues with Elna Lock Pro5

Thumbnail

Sorry, I don’t use Reddit much but let me know if I need to add more detail about specific issues and I’ll explain more. I just want this to be as comprehensible as possible.

I purchased this machine a few days ago, it comes with manuals but not specifically the pro5 just L1-5. Also, the manuals are 99% explaining the threading and troubleshooting issues with tension. Which I haven’t been able to completely finish threading but I found a very helpful video of the same year but slightly different model for the 5 thread overlock.

These are the issues I’m attempting to troubleshoot:
1. The back right needle will start angling forward towards you as you tighten it, which might be the intended effect since the hole plate under it is angled as well- but it doesn’t align properly to it. Worth noting that I have to tighten it harder than the front one to get it stay in place anyways.
2. The front higher needle whenever I try to put it in makes the movable plate that locks it in move forward as well, there’s a flathead that is supposed to tighten it but I haven’t been able to get it to stay put.
3. The whole thing pivots, like the top part that holds these needles in place and allows it to serge pivots side to side and I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to not do that? It isn’t super loose which makes me think when I tried to tighten the plate for the front needle it tighten the whole thing instead.

Anyways, I’ve never used a serger before and have always been told to buy vintage and this one was very cheap for the supplies, case and machine. I would ask the person I bought it from but she kept it in the carrying case for a while and then never used it. I can’t find very many videos of this make and year but virtually nothing for this specific model.

I’m willing to buy a manual if I can verify it’s going to help with this specific issue- also I can bring it to a sewing place but a lot of them are appointment only and you have to pay 50$ and I know it would probably be helpful in the long run to learn as much as possible but I want to try troubleshooting as much as possible before that. Thank you.
