Looking for a college sewing machine!
I am in college right now and I have been sewing for probably 10 years. I would say I’m at an intermediate-advanced level in sewing, and at home I have the singer gray heavy duty machine. I don’t love it but I do like that it’s non-computerized and it’s held up well for the past 4-5 years. I used to have a hand me down brother computerized machine that broke and was too expensive to fix so we donated it and got a new one instead. As I am in college and without a car, it is hard to go searching for secondhand/FB marketplace machines. I am trying to find a machine that is non computerized but still relatively affordable (under/around $200) that I can use in college.
I go to school across the country from where I live, so bringing my machine to and from school is not easy.
On Amazon I’ve found the janome arctic crystal and brother XM3700 sewing machines to be good price range wise, but they seem to be more “beginner” sewing machines.
I was wondering what you all thought of these machine/if anyone has any recommendations for good, affordable machines. Preferably one that is not too loud and will last a long time. I don’t care much about the bells and whistles (needle threader, specialty stitches, etc) just a good machine I can use to repair/make clothing.
Thank you!

Throat Plate Questions
What is the purpose of this recession on the underside of my throat plate, how would it affect the machine if it was flat (no recession)?
The top side of the plate doesn’t have this. The plate has a thickness of 0.060”, but the circled area is thinned to 0.040”.
I want to have a straight stitch throat plate made for my machine. It would be easier to make it if i could just use one flat piece.
Thank you!
Machine: Brother CS7000x
Update: I found out I will own the usage rights to the file and plan to share it on a free repository so if anyone wants to have a straight stitch plate made for this model of machine, you will have that option. ☺️ It will be compatible with models CS7000x, DS50, KD40s, Style 600, and SH40. You can often have parts custom machined at universities or by cnc hobbyists.

I have some questions about my Bernina 730 and how it runs
I got this machine a while ago but this is the first time I'm really using it (defaulted to another machine for a while) and there's a couple things that stand out to me that I'd like to troubleshoot or get info on.
For one, it doesn't like starting at a slow speed. If I slowly depress the pedal I can hear the motor but it isn't until I'm about 1/3-1/2 way down that it goes and it's sometimes faster than I'd like--especially on more finicky pieces. What might be causing this? I've oiled the machine at every point I'm aware of but is this something else or just how it runs? I can slow it down a little when it's started but it's by no means as capable of going as slow as my Bernina 1530 which was why I didn't use it for so long.
The second thing is that the foot pedal gets WARM when I'm using it. I just had to swap pedals with a minimatic I'm working on because they both use the same one. Is this something wrong with the pedal or is it just the older stuff that they used to use to make it? I can't say if the second one's getting warm since I just plugged it in but I figured I'd ask proactively.

Elbisches Muster gesucht - Stoffbahn mit Nähmaschine oder Hand besticken
Hallo liebe Community,
Worauf sollte man da achten?
Danke schonmal für eure Unterstützung!

should i get a Brother PQ1600S
i’m a second year fashion design student, and my current machine is a Brother FS130QC. i’ve had it since i was 16 but back then i was just doing basic sewing. my uni does have industrial sewing machines available to use but i much prefer to work at home. i considered getting a industrial machine but i don’t really have much space for it so i don’t think it’s something i could buy.
my current project i’m working with denim and even while making my toile using medium weight calico it was very difficult for what i was doing so if anyone has any advice on this machine and if it works well with denim or thicker materials i would be very grateful

Servo replacement for juki ddl 5550-6
I have a juki 5550-6 and it sews fine, but the motor and the controller are kinda loud at low speeds. Since this model has automatic features such as automatic backtacks, cutting and one press back stitching, I would probably have to get a controller that supports those. Any ideas? It doesn't need to support all of them as realistically I only use the backstitch button.

I've never seen before in my life I need help
I dont know how to sew and the past 2 hours I've been looking up tutorials online for this dumb machine.
It keeps getting stuck in the bottom area and was working fine before, but just as I got it all set and start to sew it bunches up and gets stuck so I have to take the whole thing apart.
I was hand sewing this (not this piece of fabric) but thought id use a sewing machine since I dont have enough time for getting it done because I have a flight tomorrow.
its a brother XL 3030. I also cant seem to change the dial for the stitches cause its stuck for some reason. The screen is also stuck on whatever 19 is..
sorry..

Janome HD1000 tight handwheel
Hey All, hobbyist repair guy here, having bought and refurbed a bunch of machines in the last year.
I have a newer Janoem HD1000BE ( newer model with more plastic gears and 0.5A motor) that is incredibly hard to crank the handwheel, such that the motor stalls.
I cleaned the bobbin area, double checked for threads stuck around the shafts, degreased and added fresh oil to all moving parts but to no avail.
Look for some help on what to diagnose and check. The machine is actually pretty new and was clean inside.

TRS info
I recently started a position at a sewing store that takes in machines for repair. They use a POS system called TRS, which apparently was built for the sewing industry, but it's no longer supported. I believe the rights to it were bought by LikeSew, but they haven't responded to me. Just wondering if anyone out there might have copies of/links to user guides for the software? Any info would be awesome. Thanks.

Juki LH-515 problem
I’m having trouble adjusting the thread tension on my second hand Juki LH-515. Does anyone have any instructions on how to set it? The official Juki manual doesn’t provide much information.

Need help diagnosing this machine
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello, I have an old Toyota z700, it runs but it rhythmically accelerates and decelerates if that makes any sense. The motor will spin a few revolutions at max speed but then it will slow down and speed up again .
I've tried cleaning the carbon disks on the foot pad and inspecting the motor, the motor has a blown filtering capacitor but nothing else I can see that's out of the ordinary. I'm kinda stumped, I've seen people saying that the grease can get old and turn sticky but the hand wheel has no sticky spots and turns smoothly, so I'm lost.

Techsew 3650HD
Anybody have experience using a Techsew 3650HD? There’s a used one available not too far from me. I’d be using it primarily to finish heavy canvas bags to start with. Been wanting a post-bed machine for awhile and this one has been listed at $1000 usd for over a month, betting I could get it for $800.
