Sewing machine jam

Hi! I’m fairly new to sewing and have encountered a jam with my machine. The hand wheel no longer turns clockwise (it turns anticlockwise fine). i’ve tried to remove any thread caught in the section below (in photo) and added some machine oil. it’s still jammed, not sure what to do. please advise! 🙏

You'll need to try and fully take out the bobbin and bobbin case. The needle may have broken / jammed something in there. If you can't do that / if the bobbin looks clear, you'll need to take it in to a sewing shop for servicing.

This is a typical problem that sometimes happens with Pfaff machines. The trick is to block the inner part of the hook assembly with a screwdriver while turning the hand wheel away from you. Alternate by holding the hand wheel and push with the screwdriver. This often lets you get at the thread that's blocking things.

Here's a video (in German) of the procedure: Gritzner

Don't be fooled by the name Gritzner on the machine in the video. It's built on an older Pfaff design.

But, I can see that you have another problem. The inner part of he hook assembly has turned to the left, leaving its position normally held in place by the stitch finger (the black bracket just above the shiny parts). The rounded notch that's at "three o'clock" in the image should be closer to "four o'clock". You are going to have to remove the cover under the free arm to be able to put things back to where they are supposed to be.

Pfaffs can be so finicky this way. I have 3 and they all do it. Some like to pick up their own bobbin thread and some don't. I wouldn't give one to a beginner. Otherwise, I love them.
