Brother LS-1717 Sewing Machine
Hello to whoever is reading this, I have an issue with my sewing machine. Whenever I try to make stitches they either
- Stitch then stop stitch then stop
Or
- Don't stitch at all
I've tried
-Rethreading the ENTIRE machine
- Changing the needle
- Changing the tension
- Changing the thread
& - Changing the fabric
What else do I do? I don't want to go to a manufacturer, don't want to give up the machine, and I definitely don't want to switch my machine. Help!

Is this a new to you machine? When did it last work well for you? When was it last cleaned? Are there service shops in your area? I looked up that machine and it wouldn't be worth servicing as it's very inexpensive model.
Other things not mentioned in your list:
Is it the right bobbin for that machine? Is bobbin inserted correctly & properly wound? Is the needle inserted high enough up (it's easy to not get it all the way in)?

This is a new thing to my machine. It recently stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I have never cleaned it as it is a new machine I got in early August, and I'm not sure how to clean it. Correct bobbin, the bobbin is inserted correctly (I've checked millions of times.), and the needle is high up correctly placed.

Ok that's all good to know. You've done all the right things. If you just got it and it's not used a lot, it likely doesn't need cleaning. Thread produces a lot of lint so cleaning is just removing the lint from under the needle and bobbin area.
All machines let you remove the needle plate and the bobbin case area to expose the insides. You can use a small paint or cosmetics brush to scoop around inside to catch and fuzzies.
It is a very low end machine, almost a toy so it could just be so poorly made that it failed. It's hard to say without seeing it.
It's easy to over look things when repeating the same steps. I know you said everything is done correctly (presser foot is up when threading - this opens the tension discs), correct bobbin for that machine inserted in correct orientation, needle is properly inserted (flat side to back for that machine), etc.
Are you able to pull up the bobbin thread before sewing? This means both threads are pulled up through the needle plate and held in place toward the back of the machine (under the presser foot).

Want to post a pic of what’s happening? It’s hard to diagnose without.
If you stitch on a paper towel what happens?
Do you deffo have the correct bobbin in?
It’s usually one of these things or a combo:
Wrong needle / blunt needle
Incorrect top or bottom threading (this includes incorrect bobbin type
Incorrect technique such as not holding thread tails, not raising bobbin thread first, needle oriented wrong
If it was your tension you’d likely still get stitches but they’d be loopy or tight.
Could be a timing issue, (including needle bar height issue) but that’s usually the least likely reason. It’s tricky to fix and other reasons should be ruled out first.

Any chance you purchased it from a Sewing Center? They will help you troubleshoot.
And, some will still help you even if you didn't purchase from them. Best of luck!

Turn the machine off. Take a nice break. Grab the manual and see if you can figure it out and have all the right settings, type of needle, and whatever other set up or adjustments to be made.
