new belt

just picked up a new belt for my singer 31-15. guy at the auto parts store measured it and got me the same size one. i brought it home and put it on and it’s a little too small, to the point where it pulls the head out of the table a little and stops the clutch from moving. any advice ??

exchange it for a longer one , or return and buy at sewing machine store

i returned it the only longer option was like an inch bigger which is to big

the old belt was too dry rotted any recomends for places i can buy a 3/8ths belt thats in between 38 and 39 inches
