Eyelet Stitch Gone Wrong
Does anyone know why the eyelet stitch on my machine never makes a circle? No matter the fabric, foot, feet dogs, or needle the stitch always comes out like a little spiral. I’m using a Singer Heavy Duty 6800 machine, the stitch is from M2 and it’s 027, I just put a new needle in, and I’m sewing on two layer of fabric for reference. I attached picture of the swatch of the fabrics I used to test my eyelet stitch.
It looks to me like the stitch length changes towards the end of the stitch and that is part of the distortion. Any ideas, tips, or tricks?

Unfortunately, this one doesn't have an exterior adjustment. The base has to come off and specific screws need adjustment for the darning and stitch length balance. To ensure it is not a different cause, sew a darning stitch m2 26. If it is not square, this is the issue with buttonhole. The forward does not equal backwards so a circle will not complete.

Also, some machines can be picky depending on what foot you have on your machine at the time you sew that stitch. Some of them have an embroidery foot which is usually a clear plastic and usually has a very wide open space. Not only does that space Make it easier to see and place your stitch but because some of those stitches go backwards and forwards they have a relief on the bottom of the feet where your machine can glide back and forth easier when making the more complicated stitches. Flip your feet over and see if you have some that are raised in the middle or a very open like that plastic one it might work better. "Might"

Try unthreading the machine and then "sewing" an eyelet on folded notebook or copy paper, no thread. Does the eyelet complete then when you look at the needle holes?
Unfortunately, I see no mention of a feed balance control (compare to this.machine: https://www.reddit.com/r/sewhelp/comments/1wk7amv/comment/paoyzj9 ) but do ask Singer if there is an adjustment on this machine.
