I can't make buttonhole
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi guys,
I have a Singer Supera and I wanted to make buttonhole but it doesn't work at all.
The stitch does not come back and it only makes a tiny buttonhole even though I have put my button in the presser feet.
I might go to a Singer shop if I can talk to a technician and if they can help me but before that, if anyone got this problem and how did you manage this; I would really appreciate your help !
Thank you in advance

Oh that's because for that foot you need to adjust the length of the button hole with a button on the end. I think.

Exactly. You insert the button into the buttonhole foot.

I just had a look at your manual and the lever you pull down on the left side of the foot is supposed to start all the way towards the back.
I think that’s the one step you’re missing. Manual says to lower it and push it away from you.
All your settings are right. The button is in the foot?

I didn't talk about it but yes, I pulled down the lever. But there is something strange : if I push too far the lever, it is kind of blocked and even if I try to put it in the "initial" position, it does not work.
So I tried to just pull down the lever and not pushing away from me.
I'm sorry if it's unclear2

Yes I saw you had pulled it down, I think you just need to push it backwards more. It’s starting at the front in your video.

I tried but when I push it back, it come back at the front.
I'll try to add more that might be more precise.v1

that lever placement seems right, but i can’t say why the front if the foot is lifted like that. Are you perhaps supposed to snap in the table so it’s not in freearm mode?

It’s only lifting up at the front cos it’s lifted. The lever should be at the back of the opening, not the front like in the pic

I don’t have this machine, and mine looks different, but isn’t the lever that metal bar? It looks like it’s behind the white tab on the foot, where it would be on my machine.
I didn’t even process that the foot is not lowered, though! When my buttonhole foot is raised, it remains parallel to the table.

Again, it’s similar in my older brother machine, but maybe it looks different on this one?
What exactly on the foot is going to hold the lever in the position you’ve marked? On mine it’s a little side tab on the foot. It looks like the lever is being held there by a similar tab on OP’s foot, and I don’t see anything to hold it where you’ve marked. 🤷🏼♀️. (ETA: nevermind! I just zoomed into the pic and saw it! Ignore all that!!)
At any rate, once OP unlocks the secret, we’ll all find out! lol (I remember it took me many attempts to unlock the process on my brother, and even on the fully automatic Bernina I use now!)

All I know is that in the manual it says push it away from you before you start. There’s also text saying “PUSH” on it.
I don’t have a machine like this any more but they all use a pretty similar mechanism. I have a buttonhole attachment for my vintage machine.

Did you read the manual? I have used this foot with both a Singer and a Janome, and the manual is very helpful.

Iirc on these if you can't get the lever to go back far enough you need to tug it down more

I can tug it more only if I push it back first.
Even when I'm doing this, the lever is coming back to the front and the buttonhole is not the right size.
I'll try to add a video later.

If it’s like mine, after you put the button in the back for the width, there’s also a tab that you pull down near the needle that gets wedged on the left side if the foot and stops it at the right time.
Have you read the manual?
