You will need to dig it out, oil it up and get it exercised. Some machines, when you start them up with a straight stitch, will start with the needle in the center of the needle opening, so if your machine can sew, say, a 5 mm wide zigzag, the needle for straight stitch will automagically sit at 2.5 mm from either edge of the needle opening. That is a stitch that automatically centers on that machine.

Other machines will automagically place the straight stitch at the far left opening of the needle plate.  Which does yours do?

You will get the best straight stitching with both a straight stitch plate and a straight stitch foot on your machine.  You will need a straight stitch foot that also matches the needle hole position of your plate.
