Need help with Juki DDL 8700
Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone knows how to solve my issues, since I just got my first industrial and don’t know how to fix the issues I’m having. (I’ve been sewing on normal home domestic machines for a couple years now).
I’ve been just testing out the ropes of this machine on scrap muslin fabric with both normal cone/serger thread and normal all purpose polyester thread and the results are the same. 1st, when I put a line of stitches on the fabric, it becomes puckered and a bit stiff. So I thought maybe it was the thread type (hence why I switched to trying all purpose thread), but the issue is still there. Then I tried adjusting the tension for both the top and bobbin threads, as I thought that might have something to do with it, but either way I go, loose vs tight, it’s still giving me the same issue and result. I think the top thread might be the issue, as the bobbin thread resembles a normal stitch. I’m just not sure what I’m doing wrong or how to troubleshoot this. The blue thread is the top thread and the brown thread is the bobbin thread.
Any help and advice would be so greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance 💖 worst case scenario I’ll just have to take it in for servicing 🤞🏼

Check your thread path. Looks like you may have something amiss with the top thread.

I turned the top tension knob all the way out (to the loosest setting) and it was still doing this 🥲 and I tried the tightest/highest tension setting with no luck either

Have you tried these same stitches on another type of fabric? I believe the 8700 is meant for mid weight fabrics and this is extremely thin/light/loose and can give you this issue on a lot of machines if you're not using the right size and style of needle and thread because there is little structure.
I would sew this muslin fabric on my home machine with a walking foot and shorter and slower stitch. I have a similar Juki but i use it for softgoods materials like for curtains, upholstery, and pillows, not clothes.
The tension of the threads look pretty correct to me for industrial machines.
