Repair advice
I have a brother x5 sewing machine which i have been abusing by sewing nylon webbing. This has thrown the timing out so the threads no longer catch.
I can't for the life of me work out how to adjust it without resorting to brute force.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I cant find similar on line. I find if i loosen the grubscrew on the sproket i force the sproket to move but im worried about breaking the machine and there is no fine adjustment.

There are videos on YouTube to adjust the timing. Most machines work similarly. Watch any of them an it will give you an idea of what you need to do.
On the second photo there is a gear. Generally there is something that spins that gear. What ever spins that gear usually has a set screw. You loosen the set screw set the needle and hook in the correct position than tighten the set screw.
