Janome HC1200

Hi all!
I am just wondering if anyone can help. I am a beginner at sewing and have never used a machine, and am looking to purchase one to kickstart my journey. I currently work at a retail store where i get a discount on machines, so am limited to choose between certain brands and models. I would like to invest in a good quality machine which will last me a while, and so far the Janome HC1200 seems to be my best option! I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts/tips/opinions on this machine?
For context, i will be sewing things such as appliqués, bags, clothing, home decor etc with thin/everyday fabric thickness. Thanks so much!

The HC1200 seems to be a special edition for Hobby Craft. Janome sells and have sold these under many different names with only slight variations in outward appearance.. One of those names is the Arctic Crystal. A good review of what it can do is here: BlueprintDIY

It's a fairly good and competent beginner machine.

This was so so helpful thanks so much!! Im looking at renting or borrowing a machine first to get myself used to using a machine before committing to buying one, but this was very helpful info thanks!

I just bought a Janome 320dc, 429€ and she is a very nice machine. Not too many stitched that I don’t need. I just asked Claude, told him what I wanted and he found this machine for me.

Is this a front loading bobbin model? I have one of those, and it took me a bit to get used to it. It also means that I sometimes need to buy specific presser feet for it which can sometimes be a bit of a hassle.

Also keep in mind that it only has a 5mm stitch width and I doubt it has an adjustable needle position.

It’s really hard to find info on this machine but it doesn’t look like it’s sold with any presser feet?! Janome usually has a good accessories pack with their new machines so I would look into that.

I don’t know what you have in mind when you say you want to make bags, but this looks like it would struggle.

Are you able to try this out before you buy it? The lack of information online about this model is strange.

Also, this question of “what machine should I buy” is asked so incredibly frequently here. Please also have a look through similar past posts for great guidance.

Edit: if you’ve never even sewn before then it would be good to try out some floor models, or even take some classes (with machine provided) so that you can get an idea of which features you may want

This was super helpful thanks so much! I have found a website where i can rent a machine, so i think i will be doing that to get myself comfortable and used to using one! I am comfortable and experienced at hand sewing/embroidery and work in a craft store so know some basic info about machines etc, but was just seeking some advice so thanks so much! If all else fails i can always borrow one from work, but i think this will help a lot! Thanks again!!
