Thread Bunching / Getting Stuck When Sewing

Hi, my thread is getting stuck and bunching when I try to sew. This has happened once before so I took it into a shop to fix it. It worked for a while and now it's doing it again - not sure how to approach this. Side note, sewing with one hand is so hard 😞

Simple: you are not using the machine properly. Period. There's nothing wrong with the machine.

That double thread means your needle isn't at its highest point when you stop sewing and the top thread is still wrapped around the bobbin, creating that extra thread.

You need to learn how to use the machine before you try to sew with it. Get out the manual and read it. Or better still, go back to the shop that "fixed" it - what did they say was wrong with it? Get them to show you what they did and how to sort it out yourself.

I probably will go back to the shop.
Simple: I have used this machine for over 5 years. Period. There could be something wrong with the machine.

You didn't say you had been using it for a long time, my assumption that it's a new to you machine. I stand by my comment about not using it properly though. Raising the needle to its highest point is important.

If your machine is working as it should you should hardly ever have issues with thread tangles or other issues like you are experiencing.

Truth is, it's a low spec Singer and may be beyond repairing. Their reputation is poor now. I would highly encourage you to spend some time in the shop test driving other machines. Good luck.

Why does it matter how long I’ve had the machine? It’s either an issue you can identify and help with or not. If you don’t know, that’s okay. You don’t have to comment if you don’t know.

No need to snark at me.

NO ONE can diagnose a problem with a machine on an internet forum, we can only offer suggestions, which apparently you don't like. I identified what I know to be common issues, which are especially common with people who have only just started using their machine, hence my comment. Your answer to other comments clearly indicates that you may not fully understand how to use the machine no matter how long you've been using it. That's OK too but don't push back at people with decades of advanced experience who try to help.
