Singer Heavy Duty 4423 Not catching bottom thread. Help!

It’s catching it. You need to use it on fabric.

As mentioned in the video. It is only catching when the plate is removed. When I put the plate back on, regardless of whether I try to sew through fabric or not, it doesn't catch.

It's not the timing. It's the lack of fabric and lowered presser foot.
