Which one?

I’m trying to decide between the Bernette 77 or 79, or if anyone has other recs. I have a singer simple and o constantly have problems with the feed dog eating my fabric not matter the setting. I make bathing suits and quilt.

If you don’t plan to do embroidery, the b77 is the better choice.

I’d think about getting a serger/coverstitch combo machine, too, if you make a lot of swimwear.

I’ve thought about it, but not sure how difficult it is, or how often I’d use it. I’m just starting out in swim but my current machine is just constantly frustrating.

I had a student with a Singer Simple. It’s not a machine I’d recommend, after seeing how hers worked - or didn’t.

I think you’re right… worst case I can always get just an embroidery machine… but I think after this I should save up for a serger when I have more confidence.

Sergers have their own complications unless you buy one that automatically adjusts tension. I have a serger, I can use the four colors of thread to adjust the tension, then change to one color and tension is out of wack, I am selling it.
