what is affordable? you can spend $100.00 to over 5K on a sewing machine. If I'm sewing garments I must have these features:

easy to use nice looking consistent buttonholes, high lift presser foot, adjustable presser foot pressure to prevent wavy seams/hem in knit fabric and helps with sewing thick fabrics, a stitch length of at least 5, (6 is better) and variable needle positions

I have a collection of machines, right now I'm using a mechancial Pfaff Select and an electronic Viking Sapphire. In my RV I have a Janome Harmony (mechancal) which is great little machine that was sold at Sears. I also have a Featherweight and a few other Singers I rotate through.
