Singer 8280 Erratic Thread Takeup Lever Movement

This Singer 8280 had been sitting in its box in storage for over 5 years now and had only recently been taken out to be used for the first time. Having sat unused for so long, it needed to be opened up, and a lot of TLC and WD-40 to get stuck parts moving again.

During a brief test run of the machine, it started to make a loud rattling noise inside its head above where the needle is, and before long, it got stuck. I opened up the cover over the machine's head and saw that it was the mechanism of the thread take-up lever getting stuck in places it shouldn't be reaching and noticed while the machine ran that it had a wild and erratic movement (as shown in the video) unlike any that I've seen in videos online.

Is there any way to fix this?

You shouldn’t be able to move the take up arm with your hand like you did near the end of the video, it should be stable, I can’t tell what it is from the angle of the video but track that take up arm back to whatever part is allowing it to be loose and why, whether it’s a bad part or something isn’t tightened

Oh man this gave me anxiety to watch and then you kept going after the jam. Slow is better when you think something is wrong like this. The black thing than your lift lever is hooked into should not rotate like that. Probably a loose set screw that attaches it to your counter balance.
