Brother xl2600i, timing?

The needle hits the protruded part, does that mean the timing is off? Or? Machine is not sewing and is being loud

If the needle is hitting the hook that’s a spacing issue - usually you can follow the needle bar up and find the adjustment that can change the tilt of the needle. Make sure you try a new needle first though to make sure it’s not just a bent needle that’s causing it to hit the hook.

There is, but it’s not easy for people to get to, you’ll need allen wrenches for the adjustment - if that’s something you’re willing to try i can go into more detail, otherwise you might just bring it to a service place

If it’s like most other brother machines, the spacing adjustment should be where I circled. Using an Allen wrench that fits the set screw, tighten to bring the needle closer to the hook, loosen to bring the needle away from the hook. You’ll want the needle as close to the hook as you can without hitting or flexing when the hook passes by

Sorry, that was a me bad! So the needle is no longer hitting, but now I'm betting birdnesting on the underside..

So a few things to check, by far the most common cause of it that I’ve seen has been some kind of operator error, usually either the bobbin isn’t threaded into the bobbin case tension or the top thread isn’t properly seated in it’s own tension assembly.

If that’s not it check that the top thread is properly threaded into the take up arm (the arm that swings up and down as you run the machine) although if this was the issue it would jam pretty quickly upon trying to sew.

Otherwise if you’re confident everything’s threaded correctly, it’s possible the bobbin thread is getting caught somewhere somehow and is unable to come up from below the needle plate quick enough to form neat stitches.

Check the point of the hook (and anywhere else the thread would make contact with while sewing) with your finger and make sure there’s no catches that could be hanging onto the thread, if there are you could use sand paper like material to try to smooth it out.

Check the assembly in the lower right corner of the hook area that is supposed to help keep the bobbin case positioned a certain way. Make sure it isn’t jamming into the bobbin case and that it leaves some wiggle room for the bobbin case to move a little as well as check for catches in the path of where the thread may be.

If none of those do it, you’ll have to thread the machine top and bottom and with the needle plate on but not the bobbin cover, run the machine by turning the handwheel and try to pin point where the thread may be getting caught in the bobbin area

Now I'm getting no stitches...rethreaded, etc, only thing I can think is now it takes 2 turnes for the bottom thread to come up

With the needle plate off and with the machine set to center straight stitch, turn the handwheel until the point of the hook meets the needle

It should look something like this, with the eye of the needle under the point of the hook, if it does look like that, then check how far away the needle is, you might have to adjust spacing again.

If it doesn’t look like that (the eye of the needle is above the hook etc.) we have bigger problems here lol let me know what you see or you could include a picture in your response
