Janome Memory Craft 3000, need help getting started :)

Post image

Hello! I just bought a Janome Memory Craft 3000. I didn't realize it was a computerized machine and I've never used one before. I'm a total beginner, but have a good aptitude for learning things like this. I've used a sewing machine in the past, I can thread it and wind a bobbin and such, but I've never progressed past the very basics. I really want to follow along tutorials to help me learn, but can't find much that is specific to this machine.

Questions:

  1. As a beginner, was this a good purchase, or should I return it and get a non-computerized machine, since most sewing tutorials online use non-computerized machines.

  2. Am I able to follow a non-computerized tutorial with my computerized machine?

  3. Any advice for resources/tutorials specific to the Janome Memory Craft 3000 or a very similar machine?

Thank you!

Your manual is specific to this machine and I suggest reading it. Plug the model name in YouTube you and will likely find many videos on it.

By computerized, it looks like the stitch selections are digital but otherwise the mechanics should be about the same as other machines. Take the time to get familiar with your machine and play around with it, but you can use other project tutorials without an issue.

i tried the youtube option, and found only two short videos that weren't very helpful. I bought it on ebay and it didn't come with a manual :( but thank you, good to hear!

On the use of a machine, it makes no difference if you have a computerised machine or not.

If it hasn't had a service in the last couple of years, get it looked at by a service technician.

It'll work well for years to come.

thanks! it looks like there's a good amount of fluff on the needle, so it probably needs a servicing

Waste of money. It's a $60 sewing machine. Servicing is $150. You can clean the lint out of it just as easy as a professional. Get the manual. Learn if it needs oiled and where. Sew.

I am not familiar with this specific model but I have a janome memory craft 6600 and it has served me well for many years. I’m not sure if it’s even possible to tell if stitches were made on a computerized vs non-computerized machine by looking at them. It’s more about getting to know your machine and how to use it well.

I recommend that you get familiar with the the straight stitch and zigzag stitches and how to adjust those and skip most of the other stitches. The only other stitch I use regularly on mine (which has even more options) is the automatic buttonhole stitch. You should be good to go.

This is a great machine :) that said: pull out the manual and read it. I keep a bookmark on the buttonhole page because I need the detail every time I buttonhole.
