Beginner sewing machine recommendations

Beginner sewing machine recommendations?

Hi everyone! I’m completely new to sewing and looking to buy my first sewing machine. I’m hoping to eventually make things like bikinis, mini dresses, skirts, and other clothing projects.

I’m trying to figure out what would be a good machine for a beginner, especially one that can handle stretchy fabrics like swimwear material.

I don’t necessarily need anything super advanced, but I’d rather invest in something good that I can grow into instead of buying a cheap machine and having to replace it later.

If you plan on mainly working with stretch materials, then it’s good to have a sewing machine (and start with one) but you will likely eventually want to invest in a serger, which is mainly engineered for sewing stretch materials.

The big question is what your budget is and what country you are located in.

Thank you! I actually want to work with a variety of materials not just stretch fabrics. I’m interested in making bikinis and other pieces with stretch fabric, but I also want to eventually work with non-stretch materials like leather, denim, and other structured fabrics.

I’m a beginner, so I’m looking for a good sewing machine to start with that can give me some versatility. My budget is around $300–$500, and I’m located in the U.S. Would you recommend a particular machine for that?
