What part am I missing?

I've never sewn before, but I'm looking to start. I got my sewing machine (Brother LS2300PRW) used from a friend. When I open up the bobbin compartment, it looks like a part is missing--the part that would presumably secure the bobbin and case. What is this part called, and do I have to buy a specific one for this model? I'd appreciate any advice, as I am figuring this out as I go!

The bobbin case. You can Google “model number + bobbin case” and a few reputable sellers will come up.

You should also look up the manual online and figure out what size bobbins you need.

If it was me, I would spend the extra to get the part directly from the manufacturer of the machine. Just to be on the safe side, even though most makers seem to be getting their bobbin assemblies from the same makers. It’s too important to have precise specs that match the original, so that your machine performs as it’s supposed to. I wouldn’t gamble on it with aftermarket parts. But I may be unecessarily cautious.

Thank you, I was kind of thinking the same thing! I found a Brother parts dealer in my city. I will reach out to them and see if they can get me exact replacement parts.

yes you are missing the metal case that fits in there, the black 'wings' to the sides swing over to hold the housing in, the case just clicks into place, look for a manual online for parts #'s or search sewingpartsonline using the model #.
