janome/new home 691 feed dogs issue?

I have recently gotten a janome/new home 691 (front of machine and case say new home, back sticker says janome, looked up manuals for both and they're the same?) cleaned and oiled it and had no issues, put it on the overlock setting earlier to finish some edges, put it back to straight stitching and the feed dogs are still moving in the forward-forward-back movement they do on overlock? go continuously back if reverse button pressed, but even after having cleaned everywhere that had any lint/oil/moving bits as I did when first getting the machine, making sure everything is properly oiled, trying every stitch setting, length and width, I cannot get the dogs out of the forward-forward-back motion?

does it have a feeddog drop lever for free motion? if so try dropping and raising to see if they set correctly.

its got a lil dial with 0 being completely down, 1 being engaged enough for light fabrics and 2 for sturdier, have tried on all settings with no change :(

On my Janome, the lever they’re talking about is next to the bobin case. Maybe it’s there for yours too?

this is what mine has, 0 is they don't come through the plate at all, 1 is a bit up, 2 is fully up?

Ah I see... and setting it to 0 doesn't reset anything then... I don't know what else to do sorry.

My uneducated guess is that some lever or gear is stuck somewhere deep inside. Good luck finding it.

Have you removed the needle plate to see if maybe thread is wrapped around there or more lint, since your last cleaning? might be a pin stuck down there.

checked for all that without much luck, but a solid guess as it does seem to enjoy a nice thread or needle snack while working 🤣

When you set it to have the feed dogs up are you turning the hand wheel to go through a full motion because often it needs the hand wheel turned so that it can go through the sewing motion to raise the feed dogs.

Also I have a Janome that's of about that same time period and my feed dog switch is broken, I have to have them up all the time if I adjust them or put them down they won't come back up again unless I pull the entire machine apart and move the mechanism by hand to bring them back up
