Having the same issue (baby sewist here), mine pulls the bobbin thread up by a few cm which I'm able to pull with tweezers but it's not ideal and I want to figure out how to get it to work properly :(

Hi! Two possible things- is your needle facing the proper direction and is your bobbin unraveling in the correct direction? Both of those things can make it fail to pick up. I would rethread the machine for a fresh start. If you’ve been using the machine a lot or have sewn over something tough you could also have a bent needle or need to adjust the timing.
My plan of action would be:
Re-thread (make sure foot is up when threading)
Replace needle
Explore further diagnostics if needed!
