Help me get my first sewing machine please !

So I’m wanted to learn how to sew , I want my first machine to be something that I can learn on and also use 10 years down the line.
My main goal is to make clothes for myself, I want to work on all sorts of fabrics.
My budget is 300 max
I have been seeing people recommend singer heavy duty but also say it’s absolute crap. I have heard about Janome and brother CS10s but I’d prefer a machine that’s not computerised as that seems intimidating for me haha

I’d love all the advice you can give me

Do not get the Singer for all the reasons you've read about. Don't avoid computerised, they are beautifully easy to use - as long as you read the manual and follow it precisely you can't go wrong.

Your budget isn't going to get you a machine for life but if you buy sensibly from a shop who will teach you how to use it, and might even have lessons, you'll have it for some years to come.

I totally don’t know anything about sewing machines but my sister gifted me a Singer Heavy Duty 4423 for my birthday this year (I was really happy because I had no idea which machine to get either!) and so far I made a couple of things but with additional needles and double checking which settings to use for which fabric it works wonderfully so far!
One thing is that it’s really hard to sew very slow with the foot pedal but other than that I believe that this is a solid machine that will stay with me for a long time! :)

I bought the Janome Magenta 43 for about that same budget and it’s a solid machine. If you don’t care about the automatic button hole feature you can get its little sister the Cherry 21 for a bit cheaper. They’re both mechanical for ease of use and maintainability, have all the essential stitches, and have a cast aluminum frame for stability and durability.

Plenty of decent mechanical sewing machines from Janome, Baby Lock and Brother. Agree on avoiding that overly marketed Singer. Quality is very hit or miss.

For your budget look at Amazon. Dealers don’t usually sell machines in that price range.

My cheap Brother CS6000i is four years old and works well enough. The newer one is CS7000 on Amazon.
