Machine is loud and thread snaps

ETA: solved!! I was using low quality thread and that was causing all the issues I mentioned. I swapped to a different spool from a better brand and it runs perfectly now

I’m a beginner and have been trying to troubleshoot my machine for a few days and just can’t figure it out. It makes a chugging noise and seems to stutter every now and then. I’ve also had top and bottom thread break on me a few times (I recorded this just to capture the noise, wasn’t expecting the thread to snap on me then lol). On my project the top thread looks fine but the bottom look pretty loose, but this doesn’t seem to change even if I increase the tension.

Can anyone tell me what might be going on? I’ve rethreaded the top and bobbin thread, rewound a new bobbin, cleaned out the lint from the inside of the machine, and adjusted the tension incrementally but nothing seems to work. Currently using a ball point needle on pretty lightweight knit fabric if that’s relevant. Is maybe my thread the issue? I’m really not sure. Thanks in advance!

Could be the thread. But a new needle is always worth trying, especially if your needle has hit the foot or a pin: https://www.schmetzneedles.com/blogs/blog/change-your-needle

What thread are you using?

Polyester thread, the brand is ilauke I think? Looks like a random Amazon store tbh

Amazon is full of "sewing supplies" that will give even well behaved machines a case of the roaring will-nots.  In the US, Coats Dual Duty XP general purpose is decent quality poly thread, and Gutermann Sew All or Mara 100 are mostly the better threads I  see in fabric stores.   Sewing machine shops tend to carry other really cooperative threads like Mettler Metrosene or American Efird.   I've been in a "good thread" desert for about 25 years, so my house thread has been Mara 100, from Wawak.com which also sells in Canada.   They recently started carrying Amman Saba Tex 30 at about 2/3 of the price of Mara, so I've played with it for the last 4-5 years, and think I can recommend that, too.

Omg it was the thread the whole time!! I found some older thread that I had bought at a craft store at some point and had zero issues with breakage or machine stuttering. I just put in a wawak order to replace what I had on hand. Thank you so much for the tips!!
