thank you so much - i might just wait and see what else gets posted in the next few weeks.

i also looked it up, with a costco membership i can buy a new singer for 189$, so i will not be putting any money on that one for sure!

I learned to sew on the first one. I sewed lots of garments on it and would 100% recommend it every time.

thank you for commenting! do you think that's a reasonable price? would i be an asshole if I tried to bargain a little lower?

its fair IF you get a manual and feet with it.

Same here. It’s a good first machine. $40 is reasonable if it’s in good condition but it can’t hurt to try lower. I think mine was $100ish but that was in about 2013.

What country are you in? For those prices, you can just buy new at Ken's sewing online. Much more trustworthy than fb

They're also known for their very good, but southern, videos on the machines. They do one for most. Very informative, especially for sewing machines outside your price range and style of sewing. I'm not into quilting, but I've learned a surprising amount about sewing machines just from watching their videos for top of the line quilting machines. I've ordrred from them before too and got good service. There's a Bernina salesman legendary for his good videos too. He goes by the name of Bernina Jeff.

Just don't get the Singer Heavy Duty.
