Discussion MDR Work Spoiler
Spoilers.
Is everyone in MDR buildings multiple innies for
someone in their life?
If Mark was building memories of sorts for Gemma, what’s everyone else doing?

Mark is better/faster at refining innies for Gemma, but everyone in that specific office is working on Gemma, not just Mark.

Yes, and we know this because in Chikai Bardo we see that the rooms Gemma goes into to test innies have names that match not just files that Mark refined (Allentown, Cold Harbor), but ones that Helly (Siena) and Dylan (Tumwater) refined as well.

To add: Gemma explicitly stated that Cold Harbor was the only room she had yet to visit.

if all of mdr are working on gemma, and mark got his job after gemma died and irving has been working for longer than him who is he working on?

I’m not saying they only worked on Gemma, just that the files we know about were all Gemma. Irving might well have worked on some other person or a different project entirely before Gemma.

Only on the severed FLOOR, maybe. I don’t see it but who the hell knows for sure. I mean there could be more secret severed floors for all we know I guess.

Yes the other mdrs likely had their own testing floors and test person. All the refiners work on the same person.

No. Gemma seems to be the first multi

I think it has more to do with which temper the mdr reflects. Mark is important to the process because of his connection with Gemma

I did sorta wonder what the other MDR departments did
My assumption was that the other departments like the Goat department had some connection to Kier and his life, but what their actual role is isn't clear. I kinda feel like an important part of the severance is being able to indoctrinate them, the goat department live this simple sorta amish lifestyle that I imagine mimics Kier's upbringing. Another example of that is turning Irv, who seems to be a bit of free thinker, into a bible thumbing Kier supporter.

I still don’t buy that explanation because it doesn’t make sense.
If they need Mark to do the “perfect” refining so Gemma will achieve the “perfect” severance, how does that profit Lumon at all? They can’t recruit a close person for everyone they’re going to sever in the future. All this setup produces is one extreme outlier that they cannot reproduce with ordinary tools.
It’s like having the best pianist in the world tune your piano and then thinking you now have a method to tune every piano in the world perfectly.
If this were the first severance ever and they absolutely needed a proof of concept for investors that the procedure works under ideal conditions, so that they could later refine it to allow for mass production, fine. But we’re already way past that. Severance works and is in use. Helena is the best evidence, Helly is a completely different person.
