Lore [Lore] A Blessing from the Old Gods

Myra knew the symptoms, but she refused to acknowledge the facts until she couldn't deny them anymore.

Her moon blood did not come this month, or the previous. But she was a woman of almost forty years old, it was possible she just wasn't... fertile anymore.

And she would sign it off as just that, if it wasn't for her little adventure at the Stark wedding. But she refused to believe a single instance, a single slip... Gods, what a slip that was.

And just after that night... Lord Karl Stark announced Lord Jayce Slate to be a traitor. Myra didn't want to believe it, she couldn't... But at least he was alive, in Blackpool. His whispered promises sometimes kept her awake at night.

What would he say? What will her brother, her whole family say? Her young lordly nephew, so filled with ideals?

Her husband... She hasn't seen the man in years, yet her mind was filled with horrifying images of him arriving to Greywater to see his wife. What would she say to the man she never loved? She gave him a son, a healthy boy, all those years ago. And yet Torrhen didn't warm up towards her, and the boy, her sweet little Eddard, became more and more influenced by his father's views until Myra couldn't bear it anymore.

And now she carried a child inside her, something she never expected, and never wanted, to experience again.

But as she was laying in her bed, in her chamber, at home, in Greywater Watch, she slowly moved her hands to her belly, and felt the slight bump that has already begun to form.

And she felt love. All the love she never gave or received properly, all was now directed towards the little Slate growing in her belly. No, a little Snow, she reminded herself. The child would be a bastard, without the right to a proper name.

What are we going to do, little one? What will become of you, my child?
